It's funny but the number one question I get asked on Ebay when selling a CGC book is,

"Does the case have any scratches?"

So I am wondering.

What is more important to you?

I know it's a dumb question, but I really hate it when I receive a book, especially a high-dollar book that I had to sell a lot of books off to acquire, and the holder is scratched all to hell. This happened to me recently with a 9K book. I guess the seller was too cheap to spend a few pennies on a bag for the slab.

The biggest thing about the slab being damaged is that it is a pain in the azz to get it reholdered. The $11 is no big deal, but the shipping to and from is a real killer for someone who doesn't routinely submit books.

I get what you're saying but the fact of the matter is that's still a 9k book whether the case is scatched or not.

Exactly - it can be re-holdered for a mere fraction of what the book is worth, if that's the case. I am not going to let a scratched case stand between me and a good sale!

Maybe the reason I voted for the book and not bewbs is cuz I have my own....

....anyway.

If you just dropped 9k on a book....I think it won't break your heart to spend what it costs to ship it there and back to get a new case for it. :foryou:

I'm going to start a new company; CGCSGC - Comic Guarantee Corporation Slab Guarantee Corporation. I really think slab grading is the next logical step in the evolution of this hobby.

What kills me is even though I state clearly in my auctions that the slabs I am selling have no cracks/scratches or any flaws on the CGC casing, I still get asked that question..

But as far as what's more important? Definietly the last choice (thumbs u

Do you have the equipment to encapsulate the slabs, to assure your slab grades?

It'll be a hard plastic sleeve that will protect the slab from being bent and crushed. :makepoint:

I agree, but the buyer is trying to avoid getting something that they are not happy with. Especially with a big book, there's always risk putting it back in the mail and getting it reholdered. Why shouldn't the seller take that risk versus the buyer? The buyer wants to be informed. In these internet sales, it's the norm because you cannot examine the item yourself. I call it the "smoke-free home" syndrome.

Anyone who asks that question has probably received a slab with scratches they didn't know about. Most books you have the choice to wait for a scratch-free slab.. :)
