stock market is at 1996 levels ..... so why can't I buy comics at 1996 prices?

stocks keep going down

and high grade comic prices keep going up

I look at GPA and would love to buy any high grade book at 2002 prices (let alone 1996 prices)

people who sunk their money into comics instead of stocks in the last 13 years have come out ahead

Perhaps, perhaps - but the stock market is a poor indicator of anything having to do with real life. Unless you own a major corporation. And collectables is a freak market - I don't know that you can really make correlations/comparisons between the two.

buy stocks now then you will be laughing in a couple years when they go up.

Nah, you're not paying attention. Stocks drop, comics ALWAYS perform. Buy, buy, buy! Sell a child if necessary.

There is no guarantee comics won't tank. God forbid we have another great depression... your comics won't be looking so good

Unless your collection is just a collection and not your investment :acclaim:

You can buy more than 90% of 1996 comics at 1996 prices.

More like 1976 prices (0.30$)

At first I laughed, but then thought about all the 80's and 90's books that frequently pop up on eBay and go for prices you wonder if the seller made any money.

Of course this excludes the continually hot books (e.g. TMNT 1, Primer 2, Bone 1, etc).

I want to buy pre-1980 high grade at the prices they were selling for in 1996

Is that too much to ask?

I want to be able to get married, and have a rotation of 20 year-old Eastern European "dancers" living with us. Is that too much to ask?
