The Definitive CAF Galleries

52 posts in this topic

So, I spent some time perusing CAF tonight and stumbled into some really awesome galleries, some of board members, some of people I don't know. Anyhow, I'm just wondering which galleries do you go to drool over? Is there one gallery that is the definitive place to find a particular artist, character, title, genre, etc?

Michael Lovitz for George Perez art, especially New Teen Titans Perez. He's got 82 Perez covers :o:frustrated: and owns most of the memorable Perez pieces from my childhood. I've won a few panel pages, but unless he's on vacation in Tasmania its tough sledding for the better Perez NTT stuff.

One of the ones I love going back to over and over to browse is Aric Shapiro's Batman Commission gallery. The sheer amount of artists he has covered is pretty impressive and the quality of the work in that gallery is even more so.

Stephen Fischler

Jon Berk

Albert Moy

Philippe Queveau

I forget his name now (Leif _____?), but I think he took down his CAF collection. He had some amazing Gold and Silver pages, including a colored Jack Cole Daredevil splash that was unbelievable.

My Top 10 CAF Gallery picks (in no special order):

Robert Plunkett

My Favorite Comic Art

Kenneth Zenuk

Jim D'Amico

Jimmy Hung

Eric Delos Santos

Craig Macmillan

Raul Lao

Patrick Yeung

Thomas Vanderstappen

All of these galleries show a diversity in artistic styles/flair and a concerted effort for high quality work. This puts them among the best galleries CAF has to offer (I can only hope my gallery will make it there someday (thumbs u )!

All amazing galleries...got most of them on my watch list. The updates never disappoint.

A couple of notes:

-- Many of these guys only put a portion (sometimes just a small portion) of their collections on CAF.

-- There are still some amazing collections out there with zero CAF presence.

We all know the "big" galleries (the aforementioned along with guys like Eric Roberts, Kelvin Mao, et al). Here are some "sleeper" galleries that deserve some attention:

Dan Maull's incredible Matt Wagner/MAGE collection:

Han Park's STAR WARS collection (smaller than John Higashi's, but some truly significant pieces):

Only six pieces in Terry Crewes' entire collection...but what six pieces!:

Tom Coker has "the goods":

Richard Martines has some of my favorite Neal Adams art:

Also, I appreciate the artists who keep a CAF presence, like Frank Cho and Adam Hughes...love seeing their stuff.

Thanks for the heads up on the Neal Adams gallery! I agree--very, very cool stuff there! This is part of why I was posting this thread as a "directory" of sorts for those collectors who have some of those definitive collections.

All I can say is MORE! (definitely a great distraction from grading papers!-)

Great thread Mac, its a ton of fun to search CAF, but getting together and telling others what galleries they should check out, its even more fun. If you guys have any more suggestions, i cant wait to hear them, like who has the best batman collection, Daredevil, Supes, Silver age, Golden Age..... lots of great stuff out there.

Great idea for a thread! I was not aware of some of the collections listed above.

Andrew Van Embden

Andrew has a very well rounded collection, but his collection of Daredevil splashes is incredible.

Matthew Ellis

Matt has one of the best McFarlane Spidey galleries out here.

Next for me to visit....
