Lost in the Mail...

Seriously, if they didn't send your stuff GLOBAL PRIORITY MAIL you're hosed.

I sent off a few raw books to Beyonder via Global Priority on December 2nd and he still has not received the package. I remember an ebay transaction where I sold an Ultimate Spidey #5 to a gentleman in Canada during the holiday season and the package arriving 5 weeks later makepoint.gif Damn customs! 893censored-thumb.gif

It's just not worth it.....................

Why? You didn't think it was going to be easy did you? I think that's what so impressive about your endeavor....the difficulty of completing the run. Hell....pre-eBay it was probably damn near impossible to do what you're attempting. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Sadly, your USPS is the WORST in the world.

I have never ever ever known a package get lost by FedEx or DHL or UPS.

Last Christmas my Mother, who lives in Florida, sent me a package of ten tapes to watch of shows we cannot get in England. She sent them Air Mail Express insured, and yet they NEVER turned up to this day.

A few months ago, Jef Hinds sent me a big box of DC comics by air mail insured. After four weeks they still hadn't showed. He put in a claim, I started buying copies elsewhere of comics that were in the box, FINALLY they turned up after nearly five weeks.

On 19th November, Joe Nacca, who was suggested to me by someone on these very boards, sent me 26 DCs off my ever dwindling wants list - irreplaceable stuff like Ozzie And Harriet, Everything Happens To Harvey, Comic Cavalcade, Miss Beverly Hills, Scribbly, several Date With Judy's etc etc, and I begged him, literally BEGGED him to make sure they were trackable. His post office said they couldn't insure him unless he sent them air mail insured, and that way they weren't actually trackable.

And yet again, lo and behold, nearly six weeks later, no sign of the comics, and already I've spent a few hundred dollars replacing six of them, with no trace or lead of the other twenty, or any current hope of replacing them.

I HATE YOUR USPS.

it's an utter absolute disgrace.

If you're sending comics, FIND ANY OTHER WAY, BUT AVOID THE USPS LIKE A PLAGUE.

IT STINKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I mean it.

There is always someone in here at my house, and no way anyone has tried to deliver any parcel and not gotten a reply.

Like I said, THE SERVICE STINKS !!!!!!!!!!

Oh please, let's not be so overdramatic.

The USPS does a fine job - I have had no problems with them shipping thousands of items worldwide via Ebay and my website over the years. International shipping problems are nearly always a hang up at Customs or a delivery problem within the country the package has been sent to. In all 3 of your examples, the problem could just as well be at your local or regional post office.

When shipping anything of value internationally - as others have stated - USPS Global Priority is the way to go. Registered mail, despite being a pain to package, is the way to go with items that must be insured for large amounts and tracked.

The funny thing I have noticed over the years is that I can ship faster to Europe than Canada! 893whatthe.gif Are the inmates still running the postal service up there, or is everyone on break smoking dope (legally)? grin.gif

I believe this to be true. The USPS has never ever lost a package I have sent. I'm thinking it is a little over 500 packages now? Problems I here of are usually customs related or within the countries that the package is being delivered to.

Yeah, but it's difficult enough to find them in the first place without the post office screwing it up.

Stuff sent air mail express with a tracking number always seems to arrive.

If it's trackable it's not a problem.

However, both Jef Hinds and Joe Nacca each sent their parcels air mail insured without a tracking number, and therein rests my sheer frustration.

I keep phoning the post office with the insurance number, and they keep telling me the parcel is untrackable.

Listen all of you.... NEVER SEND A PARCEL IN THIS WAY - IT'S ASKING FOR TROUBLE.

WHY ???????

What did I do to cause missing parcels ??????

It's all about the power of positive thinking man...negative thinking produces negative results....

Just because you had some problems doesn't give you the right to condemn an entire industry...perhaps USPS has more problems because they have 10x as many units as all the other delivery systems combined to contend with on a daily basis....your perception of USPS is tainted since you had a couple of problems with the service...perhaps there is something that you are doing to exacerbate a problem...I don't know...and frankly I don't care....but USPS is, and always will be, my delivery system of choice...

You know I was thinking the same thing.

Got to keep up a good attitude especially if you want help in finding them. A defeatist attitude will just turn people off. Why care, or help, if it seems you have resigned yourself to never finishing the collection? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Yea, if he would just sit around focusing hard on ponies and children and flowers and all things that are good in the world instead of complaining on a message forum, then maybe his darned packages would get to him more often!!! angel.gif

hey ian - - why dont you just list the remaining comics in your ebay favorite searches. and let your fingers do the walking for you???

Just sit vbak and check your email: every time a bell rings, little Ian gets his Wings, or in this case Scribbly.

if youre already doing it, sorry blush.gif

Just sit back and check your email: every time a bell rings, little Ian gets his Wings, or in this case Scribbly.

Do you have any idea how few Scribbly's ever come up ???

One every two months maybe...

And then it's a coverless one that I've already got anyway.

Bummer about possible missing packages. Extremely important worldwide shipments should always be sent express mail insured through USPS. It is gonna cost the customer some serious cash but if you need tracking thats the only real way.

I personally can say USPS is the most reliable and cheapest shipping around. Even with others like UPS and Fed-Ex I heard horror stories. Like trying to get insurance money out of either of them. If you did not follow their exact guidelines with shipping the package, like so much cushioning between the item and the box edges, you are screwed.

I have shipped 5,000+ packages through USPS by every means imaginable, including the infamous M-Bag (where a tag tied to a piece of string and then tied to a bag that is carried around like a sack of potatos is the only connection to you and your buyer) and so far my record is 1 lost package that I know of 893crossfingers-thumb.gif. There were others that seemed to dissapear but all eventually returned to me or arrived at their destination finally. I must say customs can delay anything especially to England and Canada. They like to make sure they are collecting every ounce of tax that they can even if you package arrives in the timeframe of surface mail. tonofbricks.gif Yes I have had this done to several customers of mine. mad.gif

Here is a similiar horror story. Not $800 bucks, but alot of money none the less.

I offered to sell a book to a buyer that he was interested in. Buyer is interested in close up scans, exact QP and yada, yada, yada. So, i get the "brillant idea" that why don't i send him the book, he can look it over and we can haggle about the price. - It's a buyer that i haven't dealt with before, but he's a faithful board member, has impecible feedback and judging by some of the books that i know that he has bought, his education, you feel it's a safe bet. So, I send the book and slap delivery confirmation on it. I have probably have received and sent over 500 packages and have never had a problem with losing one. -

Fast foward to three weeks later, and i am still wondering why the package wasn't delivered. I am in contact with the buyer and still no package. He was going out of town, but would have someone there to grab the mail.....I go to my po and they have it confirmed that the package was delievered. So where is it ? -

Well, this was like, three months ago and the package just fell off the face of the earth. and i am not only out the book, but the money that i would have made had i sold it. - I belived the buyer ,. that he never got it. - But, if i had put insurance on it, and the post office has it recorded that it was delivered two days after i sent it, I wouldn't be entitled to a refund...would I ? - I mean, they did their part....at least it appears to be done. -

I think the book got delivered to the wrong address and that it was never returned to the post office for whatever reason. Why would someone keep a package ? - They most likely wouldn't be like :" Oh this is a CGC book that is worth xxx ! -

anyway, don't send him any money....when the book is insured and you send it out , you're no longer responsible after that...imho. It sucks for the buyer, but that's not your problem...it's the post office's problem to deal with. - that's what insurance is for....
