Dude don't open the book up and scan it like that! :o

 

Opening a book at the centerfold and laying it flat (especially in this grade) will cause no harm to the book. :whistle:

 

So it's not putting any undue stress on the staples at all?

 

No, not a newsprint book - more damage is caused by general handling of a book than by opening it like this.
