FS: Marvel Stories, Nov. 1940! Calling all Timely & pulp nuts...

19 posts in this topic

Marvel Stories, November 1940. Well, this is a pretty cool old pulp. :) On the stands as Marvel Mystery Comics was finishing its first year, this book not only shares a logo with Marvel Mystery, but all of the interior b/w illustrations are drawn by Simon & Kirby...and, there's a one-page Human Torch comic story!

Condition: A low-grade copy that grades around Good, but the cover has excellent colors/gloss and pretty nice eye appeal for the grade. The spine is missing chips of paper at the top and bottom, but is richly colored (a pretty deep green color) with no fading at all. Covers have plenty of edge wear, there's a piece of tape inside the right edge of the front cover, and the back cover has 1" spine splits at top and bottom. Book is complete, solid and can be easily flipped through. PQ is cream to off-white & supple.

Yours for $65 + shipping at cost. Thanks for looking, troops!

That's neat! If no takers on the book, sounds like I have some more reading to do. Thanks for the heads-up!

As someone who's been GA-comics-only for a long time, it's been fascinating to dive into pulps this year. It feels like finding a missing puzzle piece. There seems to have been quite a lot of cross-pollination between comics and pulps, both in terms of cover art and in terms of stories.

The Marvel Mystery h/c omnibus that came out 09Sept23 has several color pulp cover pages at the back and an editorial at the front that states the historical relationship btwn these Marvel pulps (published by Red Ribbon?) and Timely's. :hi:
