Comic storage furniture....what finish should I use?

I am having a customer cabinet built to store my comics and I am concerned about the finish I use. Can someone recommend something that wont be detrimental to the life of my comics?

Something with a very low VOC count. I used latex polyurethan for all my storage cabinets but I still store the books in plastic containers (within the cabinets) I purchased at Staples.

The have a water based poly that does not off gas , has 0 to 1% VOCs if it is a wooden cabinet, otherwise like Joeypost said there is a whole line of paint with no VOC they sell like at Lowes or Home Cheapo.

Go with a laminate cover rather than paint or the like.
