I'm sure some here will debate the comprehensive accuracy, but it's a pretty good source to start with.

I'm surprised, they actually got some of the more obscure unacknowledged covers right (Exciting 7 & 8, for example), as well as the more obvious ones (Daring Mystery # 5).

Why are you surprised?

The guy never even drew a comic and he's a legend?

:screwy:

selgue never drew a comic, yes, but he is a diligent GCD indexer, possibly GCD legend. :baiting:

As for Schomburg, he did indeed draw comic stories. So :screwy: back atcha.

Schomburg did do interiors. On Jon Juan he did the entire book. He also drew, at least, two short stories; "Trespasser in Time" and "Exhibit One" for Amazing Adventures.

Schomburg's great for two reasons:

1. The Timely war covers. They're early Marvel and highly sought after by collectors.

and more importantly...

2. He's really :censored: good.

Jon Juan # 1 was all Schomburg...but he also did some stories and interior panels on other books.

Keep in mind, while you may not care for his work, he was the preminent cover artist of his day. He didn't do interior stories because publisher's paid him more to do captivating covers that would sell the book. Why waste that talent on an interior story when it was the impactful Schomburg cover that generated revenue? He was one of the very few GA artists who made his living doing almost exclusively covers...that's quite an accomplishment considering the era.

Yes, I've heard of the GCD.

No, I'm not looking through 600 entries to find 2 books of an artist I'm not that into. But I am curious enough if you want to provide the info. If not, I'll accidentally knock over a box of Golden Age next show I see you at!

Bring it on, lunger!

The biggest rip-off in comics is having a great cover and a crappy interior. Ask the owners of Batman # 227. I think that's where I'm coming from (a more modern perspective?). I respect an artist's work more if he did both covers and interiors equally well. A modern counterpart might be Brian Bolland, but there's no comparison, Bolland blows Schomburg away. (Plus Bolland did a lot more interior pencils).

But I guess you're right, in the CGC era, interiors mean nothing, it's all about the cover.

And this is the reason these threads should be kept in the Golden Age section - I'd never see them and hence would not post in them

I'll bring a pair of "what I collect rocks and what you collect sucks" blinders for you at the next show. Will there be a sighting at the end of the month up here?

The kid was too young for the last Boston show, but if the line-up is good, we'll be at the next one. Prepare yourself for a Milan Lucic-style beatin'!

Hey, show me some of his pencils, maybe I'll like them. I never said I hated his work, just hard to imagine how he reached such a sacred level. Seems overrated to me (shrug) Overrated does not equal suck.
