JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY WITH THE MIGHTY THOR

Seven (7) early SA JIM/THORs up for grabs...CHEAP!

All of these books with the exception of #111 have been part of my personal collection since the late 60s…purchased second-hand at the old downtown Torrance Bookstore and lovingly shepherded into this new millennium…several of the books have the same common stain running through the book which has been factored into the grade…books are strictly graded but I realize there can be a wide variety of opinion of just how stains, and depending on their severity, can affect grade so please read my copious book notes of the book’s description in detail if considering a purchase…beyond that I’m happy to answer any questions via this thread or PM that you might have.

Having said that, all books are guaranteed satisfaction and exhibit very nice eye appeal for their technical grades sitting in their Mylite 2s in hand…individual book prices account for the free shipping and are firm but I’m happy to consider discounts for multiple books…books ship the day or day after I receive payment.

Free Shipping USA and Canada: USPS 1st Class or Priority depending on number of books and weight of the package.

Payment: PP Personal; money order or check.

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY WITH THE MIGHTY THOR 102

MAR 1964. “SLAVE OF ZARRKO, THE TOMORROW MAN!” Tales of Asgard story (The BOYHOOD of THOR! (At the Age of Eighteen!)) “DEATH” COMES TO THOR! Also includes a Sci-Fi Stan Lee/Larry Lieber story “The MENACE!”

Stan Lee story. Jack Kirby/Chic Stone cover/art.

Nice copy, lots of eye-appeal for the technical grade. Mild spine wear, chips out of top and bottom spine corners (little tear at bottom spine corner) accentuated by a gnarly “chew” deal going on at the logo…hint of overhang top and bottom edges, a few small transverse tears at bottom edge…about 5 teeny chips along right edge not readily evident until the cover is opened…creasing top and bottom right corners…some soft random NCB creases but otherwise the cover lacks rumple of any serious nature…vendor’s date stamp at “MY” portion of title. Back cover is in reasonable shape with some spine soiling and a more evident stain(?) associated with the front cover chew, a light but noticeable long diagonal crease starting from the top center edge down to about the ad salesman’s ear…stain that is evident at bottom left corner goes all the way through book. Structure is sound, book lays flat , perfectly centered with centerfold firmly attached with perfectly-centered, rust-free staples. Interior covers have light tanning at the perimeter. Interior pages are cream to off-white and in otherwise fine condition…COMPLETE!

Stan Lee story. Jack Kirby/Chic Stone cover/art.

Another very nice copy for the technical grade. ¼-inch spine splits/abrasions top and bottom spine corners…cover barely hanging on at bottom staple, otherwise noticeable but fairly mild spine wear…crease and chip out of bottom right corner, stain that runs all the way through book, light stain in between Thor’s legs, top and right edge clean. 3-inch diagonal NCB crease lower right through the bottom of Thor’s cape, also a soft crease from Thor’s right shoulder down through cape and another hairline-breaking color crease starting at the top edge at the “I” in INTO and running SE to Thor’s hammer…nice color and gloss. Back cover is in decent shape with light tanning along spine, bottom edge and some soiling at bottom margin, stain previously mentioned bottom left, and some light small chipping…general fade to the overall white background. Interior covers have light tanning around the perimeter. Splash page has a ¾-inch crease/bent bottom corner. Nice overall structure with perfect registration, book lies flat with a hint of spine-roll, centerfold securely attached with perfectly centered, tight rust-free staples. JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY WITH THE MIGHTY THOR 107

AUG 1964. “WHEN THE GREY GARGOYLE STRIKES!” First appearance Grey Gargoyle. Tales of Asgard story “Balder Must Die!”

Stan Lee story. Jack Kirby/Chic Stone cover/art. Pretty nice copy for the technical grade due to stain that transmit bottom and side edge all the way through the book. Small chips out of top and bottom spine corners and some mild spine wear, nothing serious. There appear to be some very light small stains below the “T” in THOR and to the bottom left of the story title block (not readily evident until the book is held up to the right light). Light thumb-crease at right edge on the man in the brown suit…overhang at bottom edge, both front and back cover and a light crease at both top and bottom right edges, otherwise cover is pretty rumple and crease-free. Distribution date stamp at top of “TH” and an erased grease pencil re-sale mark on the middle of the “T”. Back cover exhibits aforementioned stain with some creasing along the lower left margin, some light soiling along the spine and a general fading/light tanning of the overall white background. Solid structure with just a hint of spine-roll…centerfold rigidly affixed with perfectly-centered rust-free staples.

Interior covers exhibit staining as mentioned, with light to medium tanning at the perimeter. Interior pages are cream to off-white and in fine overall condition. Cool full page ad for ASM Annual #1 and Marvel Tales #1…COMPLETE!

Grade 3.0 G-VG

2009 OSPG $42 in G-VG grade.

Stan Lee story. Jack Kirby/Chic Stone cover/art.

Staining again on this one keeps it from the 4.0/4.5 range. 1/4-inch spine split/abrasion top spine, small chip/abrasion bottom spine corner, light but noticeable spine wear and some light soiling, overhang and some light pre-chipping top edge, overhang and light chipping/chatter bottom edge with a nice clean right edge, sharp top right corner and a fuzzy creasy bottom right corner. Little dot of color loss at lower right edge at the bare branches, vendor’s date stamp 7 2 at the top of the “TH” in THOR…erased grease-pencil resale mark on the “T” and a faded or erased grease-pencil slash-thru at the 12c location..nice level of color/gloss. Back cover is in presentable shape with a drop-crease at bottom spine corner and the aforementioned staining at bottom left edge and up the side…general fade to the overall white background with some light soiling. Interior covers are off-white and in nice shape (no tanning!). Excellent structure, well-centered, book lies flat with centerfold rigidly secured by near-perfectly-centered rust-free staples. Stan Lee story. Jack Kirby/Chic Stone cover/art.

Another well-loved copy…small chips/abrasion at both top and bottom spine corners, spine wear commensurate with the grade, light parallel crease through logo, small creases at bottom right corner, random soft NCB creases around the THOR title, dust shadow entire right edge length, stain at bottom all the way through book, faded or erased grease-pencil mark above the “T” in THOR, date stamp at logo running vertically, fairly clean edges with a small fold at upper right corner. Back cover is in reasonable shape with the aforementioned stain…staples have 1/8-inch staple pulls but cover is secure…general yellowing of the white background with some random soiling marks. Interior covers are off-white with a hint of tanning at perimeter. Solid structure, book lies flat, nicely centered cover with centerfold firmly attached with slightly off-set rust-free staples. JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY WITH THE MIGHTY THOR 111

DEC 1964. The Mysterious MR. HYDE and the Serpentine COBRA feel…”THE POWER OF THE THUNDER GOD!” Tales of Asgard story “The Secrete of SIGURD!”

Stan Lee story. Jack Kirby/Chic Stone cover/art.

This is a solid 4.5 copy with wear commensurate with the grade. Marvel Chip at top logo edge and small chips out of top and bottom spine corners…otherwise some noticeable but fairly minor spine wear…1/16-inch staple pulls at both staples. Some very light small creases upper right corner and some wear/rounded corner bottom right…hairline top edge overhang shows some light wear…otherwise edges are clean. Center of cover has a couple of raised NCB creases…sort of a wrinkle that are hard to see in the scan…there is another soft vertical NCB crease about 3-inches in length running just under the horse to Thor’s cape…otherwise cover is in pretty great shape with a nice level of color/gloss. Back cover is in decent shape with evident NCB creases at upper left corner, some light soiling along the spine, light tanning around the perimeter, a little light stain bottom margin and a 1/2-inch soft crease lower left corner…upper left crease extends to back page as well. Structure is excellent, book lies flat with perfectly centered, rigidly-affixed rust-free staples.

Interior covers have medium dark tanning at the perimeter. Splash page has an ink-stamped $ .75 resale price stamp upper right margin. Interior pages are white in the center, generally overall off-white with just a hint of light tanning at the perimeter and are in generally excellent shape except for the crease on the last page as mentioned. Back page has an ad for ASM 20 and Sgt. Fury #13/Cap Cover. There’s a full page Loki pin-up as well on the page before the Tales of Asgard…COMPLETE!

Stan Lee story. Jack Kirby/Chic Stone cover/art.

Pretty darn nice copy for the technical grade…small chips/abrasion at top and bottom spine corners, soft drop crease at top spine corner…fairly light but noticeable spine wear mostly at center…soft crease lower left, stain running all the way through book relegated to just the bottom right edge about an inch and a quarter length…edges are fairly clean, sharp top right corner and some teeny pre-chipping at bottom edge…hint of a dust shadow along right edge…faded or erased grease-pencil mark to the left of the “T” in THOR…really nice level of color/gloss. Back cover is in nice shape with general fade of the white background, and some random soiling in addition to the stain…also some color pull at black ad box lower left and near center spine area. Solid structure, book lies flat, slightly offset centering, centerfold is firmly attached with near-perfectly-centered rust-free staples. Cool full page centerfold ad advertising X-Men 9, ASM 21 and FF 35. Interior cream to off-white pages are in great shape except page 15/16 has a stain at the bottom of the page…COMPLETE!
