Okay, I screwed up in the poll. doh!

I didn't include Green Lantern #57 and I included Superman 144 by mistake.

If you'd like to vote off Green Lantern #57, please check the box for Superman #144.

Sorry guys, but I guess it was bound to happen eventually. :sorry:

Welcome to the first ever Survivor Series for Silver Age DC Superhero comics! Round 5 :preach:

The goal is to determine the greatest Silver Age DC Superhero cover of all time. We will be voting off our 30 least favorite covers from the list provided.

If you hover your mouse over the thumbnail picture, you can see the name and issue number of the comic. Click on the thumbnail if you wish to see the full-size scan.

The poll is at the bottom of this post.

Interesting facts about round 4:

  • Green Lantern was the big winner this round, with all 16 books advancing.

  • 8 of 10 JLA books were voted off.

  • No book is safe anymore. The lowest number of votes against was 4.

Oh gosh, look...Green Lantern's heading the poll right now...how very odd....

(Yay 'Tec #359! Hold on, buddy!!)

Coincidence, I'd say. Now that all the Batman covers are gone, Green Lantern is the next logical choice.

I think that 30 votes per round were too many. It seemed to enable large massacres by block voting. With fewer votes per round the blocks may have been spread out more and the best covers of a particular title may have escaped the fate of its brethren.

To only have 1 Action, Detective and Wonder Woman, and no Adventure, Batman or Superman covers left while 16 Green Lantern covers are alive is not an accurate representation of the quality of the silver age of DC.

But still my votes are in for this round and I will be here though the end.

GL's getting hit the hardest as of now...

I voted off Showcase #4 too. I love The Flash, and I love Carmine Infantino, but that is not a very good cover.

Maybe sometimes a cover gets through too far in the competition because of its iconic status, not because it's a particularly strong design or piece of artwork. I've been a lot harsher on this type of cover in all the Survivor series, other examples being Flash 105, Detective 359.

This poll is completely flawed. 2 of the best 5 covers(JLA #56 and Strange Adv #212) have already been voted off. What are you guys thinking?

I know I screwed up on this round's poll, but is it the poll itself that's flawed? Is it the setup of the competition? Perhaps it's the randomness that bothers you and you can't understand how others aren't voting for the same ones that you are.

We've got to keep in mind that people may have different reasons for voting for the ones that they do. Your "favorite" cover may be based on artist, style, creativity, is it a key issue, you remember it from when you were a kid, general appeal, or whatever. Personally, I have well-drawn and the coolness factor that help me choose my favorites.

I've had people suggest we do these a different way, and that's fine. I don't own the patent to the Survivor Series contests, so whoever wants to start one, may do so and do it as they see fit.

Many of my favorites are gone too, but that's not because the poll is flawed --

IT'S BECAUSE THE VOTERS ARE FLAWED!!

Jack

lol just in case

That was my point. I wasn't being critical of Andy, even though I do think it would be useful to have larger scans of the books...
