Thanks Bruno. First time it's happened to me. I've had Canada Post lose a few packages over the years, but I've never had a problem with Canada Customs til now.

 

Let's just hope your OA isn't hanging in the Canada Customs lunchroom.

And the story in this particular issue took place in Canada. So many they DO think they're keeping the us safe by preventing subversive Canada-bashing pinko kinky bestiality artwork from entering our fair country.

I've never had a problem either until now. Mine was something like 18 comics in a corrugated box about 8 x 8 x 12 via First Class International.

Given that there's clearly nothing illegal about what is being sent, what customs officials will try to do is determine if the declared value is equal to the value of the merchandise.

 

They are basically seeing if the sender declared properly, or if he under-declared in order to allow the receiver to skip out on paying duties.

 

As such, declaring value is a double-edged sword. If you declare some value (say 40% on a fairly high-ticket item) on your item, they might suspect it is actually "priceless", and stop it for review.

 

My sense is if you declare nothing, it is very unlikely it'll get stopped - but just in the remote chance they open the packaging to look, then you're SOL.

After a week and a half, there was an update on my shipment:

That's what I fear.

 

Although it can't be worse than the 3 comics I got from a boardie in the UK a few weeks ago. Canada Customs hit me for $343 in taxes.
