Magazine grading - Not up to comics?

6 posts in this topic

Has CGC grading made ANY difference to the price of Mags?

9.4 copies of MP go for about $25, TMNT #1 CGC 6.0 went for $500, etc

These don't seem like major prices, and I would say a 9.4 mag was still hard to find (but maybe slightly easier than a comic due to the quality of paper) confused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gifconfused-smiley-013.gif

The Mag market just isn't as significant (and is so tiny and limited) compared to the comic one. Haven't seen too many Vampis in 9.6 and above however, despite the amount of warehouse copies out there.

Time, and the census, will tell - especially about mags such as Spectacular Spiderman 2, Savage Tales 1, Spirit World, In the Days Of The Mob, Vampi 1,3, 101 - 113, Psycho 23, Scream 11 etc. If a lot of copies come out of the woodwork in high grade, then the mag market will be corrected quite quickly to pre - CGC levels.

Also demand is much less - mags generally appeal to B.A. enthusiasts and aficionados of particular artists (Wrightson, Jones, Adams, Smith, Kaluta, Maroto, Alcala etc.)

There would be big prices for such rarities as Eerie 1, Blazing Combat 1, Pussycat, Gothic Tales Of Romance and Mad 25 -35 in 9.4 and above, assuming they exist in those grades (Eerie 1 especially).

As I said, it's early days, and time will tell.
