LOS ANGELES ROCK'N COMIC-CON

54 posts in this topic

Hey everyone,

So I must say this 1st annual and probably the Last annual Rockin Comic Con was a total bust. 4 Comic Vendors, 4 Toys/ Statue Vendors, and about 30 or so Miscellaneous Vendor. So the only reason why I went was because of Stan Lee, Bob Layton, and J. Scott Campbell. I went on Saturday, got there around 10:30 and they still were not letting people in when doors and they were suppose to open at 10:00. Stan Lee show up on time and at the beginning there were probably about a 100 people waiting in line for him. After he got through those people he took a 1 hour break came back and probably sign 50 more. Alot of Vendors were complaining about low attendance and wanted a refund. I didn't stay for the"Rockin" part because none of that interest me.

So here are the only 2 good this that came out of this show!

Hmmm where were those guys located?? I wonder. lol And don't forget we also had Joe Rubinstein and Joe Benitez there at the DWC booth as well. So in the afternoon we had 5 great creators sitting in the DWC booth signing and sketching. 1 creator in each corner and Stan in the middle. There were bunches of great sketchs flying out of the booth from every direction. I felt like a proud new papa looking at that scene. And since we were accepting all of the CGC submissions for the show that kept us busy and they are now in route to Sarasota for grading. While I will withhold my thoughts on this show, I would like to thank everyone who did come out and say hi to us this past weekend. Thanks to Joel and Jessie for working the booth with us. And Sharon and I would like to send a very special thanks to all of the creators who joined us, Bob, Joe R, Joe B, J. Scott and of course Stan "The Man". It was a great honor to share our home with you all.

This was the most poorly run con I have ever been to. I asked the promoters numerous times if Stan would be signing on Friday, as this was the only day I could attend, and was told yes over and over again. I came from San Francisco for the show and dragged my girlfriend to the show with me. I'd brought a number of large items with me carefully down to LA to have Stan Lee sign (large SA posters) and showed up eagerly on Friday, only to find out he wouldnt be around (no call, no announcement, etc.).

To the promoters credit, they were extremely sorry, and did offer me the chance to get double the number of items i'd originally bought signed at no charge if I came back on Saturday. I was very thankful for this, but still very annoyed by the inconvenience (as was my girlfriend, who I had to beg to drive with me to come to an empty show again on Saturday just so I could see Stan). The show did offer some rare opportunities to get up close and personal with creators like Bob Layton (who told us a number interesting stories and signed a bunch of my books) but was pretty empty. I also felt bad for the dealers there. I'm glad I got all my stuff signed, but I dont think I'll be attending this show ever again.

Sadly this wasn't the worst show I've attended.

I'd rank it 3rd.

Hmm, now I want to know #1 and #2... The Creation show in Pasadena in 2002? The Las Vegas Extrosion in 2003? Or should I stop guessing? :) If you would've been to the San Diego Quarterly Con in November 2009 (like me and Rey did) you might've added that show to your top 10... :)

It was SOOOOO bad, so bad. The only reason why I went was to chat up JSC. I did get a free pic with Stan Lee before he entered the con and talked with him for a minute, so that was cool. But this was easily the worst show ever. No booths had names on them. I had a 3 day pass so i got in early, but that really didnt matter since there was nothing to see. I tried to line up for JSC to be first, but nobody could tell me where he was going to be. So bad. Left after talking to Scott and went to Laguna... that was nice at least.

Where did you line up for JSC? Was it at the DWC booth? The only thing we did not know was what time he was going to start. But then he is like that. He doesn't set a specific time to start it is just when he decides to get there.

I lined up at booth #600, where JSC had stated he would be at on his facebook page. When I went to booth 600, someone was already there, so I tried asking someone that was working the event where JSC was going to be relocated to, they didnt know either. So I waited by the door for a bit hoping to catch him, but he was late. I noticed a small line at your booth, went over, asked who they were waiting for, and there you go. You didnt have any signs up on the table as to which artist was going to be signing there, so it was a little hard to find where to go. No big deal, glad he came out.

Ugh. Lamest. Show. Ever.

Even the Shrine show is better than this, and it's mostly bootleg porn now.

And it's only $7, and I can park for free in the neighborhood.

Awful, awful, terrible show.

+1

Totally agree. The Frank and Sons warehouse shows (Sat and Wed) are way better than this. The major complaint from the vendors was the lack of promotion.

This show had the potential to be a decent show (big venue, well lit, easy to get to) but I guess this is a one and done deal.

The only plus side: there weren't any stinky people walking around like other big cons (I guess because there weren't ANY other people besides me, my two daughters and the 8-10 vendors that were still there on Sunday funday in the building) (thumbs u
