i noticed alot of people are putting b+b 28, and avengers 1 higher then FF 5

now not to discount the importance of the jla, and avengers

but Dr.Doom is one of if not the biggest villian in all of marvel

out of all the books being left off lists, or ranked low

i think FF5 deserves better

so basicly..why?

not saying any of u are wrong

id just like to know ur opinions on FF 5 vs the team books

SpiderTurtle, are you planning to get a Showcase 22? A 6.0+ with at least off-white pages will look great with your AF15. :baiting:

Showcase, if the price is right, a 6.0+ would definitely be a book I want. At one point, I had the SC 22 5.5 off-white but I had to sell it b/c I needed the $ for my AF15 fund

Patience and a right copy will come along. Heck, you might just score one in 6.0+, since some people might not know how rare a 6.0+ is.

My Top 10:

1. AF#15 - 3rd biggest book in the hobby. Action #1 is king...Tec #27 beats it out for #2 only because of age.

2. FF#1 - the beginning of "Marvel"

3. Showcase #4 - intro of the SA.

4. Xmen #1 - not a great individual book; but laid groundwork for the future.

5. Hulk #1 - big time book; scarcity puts it in top 5.

6. JIM #83 - I never got it, but it is what it is.

7. FF #5 - Top comic villain of all (debateble); most significant since Luthor.

8. ASM #1 - cannot discount first issue of the alltime title.

9. AV #4 - uber, mega key. The return of 'Marvels" top ndawg.

Where does Tales to Astonish 27 fit in?

Sounds like there is general agreement as to the top 12 or so books but there is a jockeying as to which ones fall into the top ten. Wonder if the debate heats up if this were expanded to include the top 15 SA books? Would issues such as TTA27, Tales of Suspense 59, Strange Tales 110, fall into the top 15?

i think theyre all keys, just not "big deal" keys

ST 110 is def argueable for a top 15/20, but doesnt deserve recognition in the top 10 imo

if not for scarcity i don't think TTA 27 would have much steam

Not debating the importance of AF 1 or the other books mentioned. I would point out that TTA 27 was a ten cent issue for what would become a Marvel supe. I do agree it does not have the legs of a JIM 83 or an ASM 1 which reflect popular characters to hold their own titles. I dont believe that Antman ever got his own sustained title.

Strange Tales 110 eventually lead to Dr. strange who did get his own title as well as his larger spot in the Marvel Universe compared to Antman. I wonder if the issue will gain prominence if there is a successful movie ala Iron Man.

I own both of those books and collect both titles, and this is the most uninformed statement of the thread. How exactly are you measuring that there's a low demand for Fantastic Four #1? It's DEFINITELY not by how often and for how much the books actually sell at. FF is the second-best-selling comic book title of the Silver Age, period. Not just in the 1980s, not just ten years ago, not just last year--but as of right now, this year, this month, almost EVERY month it sells the most behind Spidey. FF #1 never stays in anyone's inventory longer than a few months, less if it's priced right. Equivalent grades of FF #1 and ASM #1 never sell anywhere near each other in price, not even close--FF #1 sells for 3x more usually, at least in high grade. :screwy:

FF5 is a great book, but it's still just the first appearance of a villian. I can't get too excited about that compared to the first appearance of a major hero.

I don't have the dates in front of me, but Adventure 247, the first Legion of Super-Heroes predates Brave and Bold 28, iirc, by well over a year, and was the first team group of the Silver Age.

You're right, except the Legion predates the JLA by almost 2 years.

And for the record, the Challengers of the Unkown predates the Legion by over a year.

The Challengers weren't Super-Heroes, though. Didn't Blackhawk predate them?

That's a great point - Blackhawk gets no credit as the first Team Group of the SA - though granted, not the first new team group.

Blackhawk is a GA team, so that's why it doesn't count as the first SA group.
