Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1

I just bought the Comic Art price guide by Jerry Weist. I noticed in it that the cover to Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 sold at auction a few years back for $20,000+. Any ideas what that cover would bring today? Does anyone know anyone who would be a good dealer to buy original art from???

IF THE COVER TO MPFW WAS UP FOR GRABS TODAY, I TRULY DOUBT IT WOULD BRING ANYWHERE NEAR $20K. THE PRICE OF 20K WAS A FLUKE. PERHAPS IT WOULD BRING $10,000, AT MOST.

The cover to issue #4 sounds like an interesting piece of art. Was it an auction catalog or straight sale?

Straight sale. 11 x 17 inches (circa 1939 art). Check his website or email J P or Bill Hughes for availability. Those boys r probably at Heritage this week though. Or p-mail Clobber to see if this orig art is still listed in the Mint's latest catalog.

My question is: where in gods name did they come up with 1939 original cover art? Sounds like more of a miracle to me.

If I remember correctly the story is this. In the mid 1970's several copies of MFPW #1 and also several cover proofs were found in the estate of the publisher. I believe that the art was also in the estate of the publisher.
