Hi everyone,

Many of you that attend shows know Ryan Caffrey, brother of Modern Grading Specialist Shawn Caffrey, and a CGC helper at many shows for CGC SS...

Ryan was in a severe car accident in the early morning hours after C2E2 after he was picked up from the airport in NJ. It was a 1 vehicle accident and 2 out of the 4 people were killed. Ryan and another person both survived. Ryan was a passenger in the vehicle.

He was airlifted to the hospital and has been diagonsed with lung contusions and a fractured sternum among smaller problems. He will recover and checked himself out of the hospital today to attend his friend's (the driver) funeral.

He is in good spirits (as good as he can be) and is taking time off to recover. Anyone that knows this guy, knows he is as tough as nails.

Myself along with Chainnball and MutantKeys will be starting a benefit for Ryan on the boards where board members can auction off items or bid on items with 100% of the money going to Ryan directly. This money can be used by Ryan for whatever he may need to continue pushing on (as we all know medical bills, no matter the fault can be still take a long time to get straightened out, and as a teacher there are only so many sick days banked).

I will be donating some CGC items, Doug Mahnke will be donating something and on and on.

Ryan would never want this and I have not discussed it with him, but I personally (hopefully with a lot of you) feel as a community it could be a tremendous blessing to someone just starting his professional life as a teacher and as an all around big time to help to many of us.

I would ask on behalf of Shawn that no phone calls be made right now to CGC to talk about it. The family is getting everything in order and Shawn is still working. 30 phone calls isn't going to take the stress off for him.

Feel free to post a get well or anything else in this thread, as I am sure Ryan will be notified of it as well as Shawn.

 

I will update this post as more information on the benefit becomes available. There will be a format that I would like people to use. More on that later...

The 'template' for the auction will be below. Please just copy and paste this information into your auction. Feel free to run the auction as long as you want, but ending by May 2nd. Talk was that running it from later this week until the next Sunday (May 2) would be beneficial. It will also be beneficial to have auctions ending on different days. Lets just try to have them end in the eve (not to late, not to early, say 9 EST?)

Notes:

All "$" from the auction goes directly to Ryan at his Paypal address. If you offer a book please cover the shipping to the winner also!

You are handling the auction, so have a starting price to begin the auction.

If you want to post a bid of higher than the starting price (say it is $100, and you want to post $200 which is more than the $5) feel free!

The benefit auction will be ran in the Modern/Copper forum as most books offered have been from that era. But feel free to add other books or items.

Remember this is a benefit, so please do not start items with unrealistic prices that might not be met, let it roll!

I met Ryan for the first time at the show this past weekend. He is such a nice guy. Listening to some of his stories from his classroom at dinner Friday night was one of the highlights of the con for me. Cursed Pirate Girl #1 No logo variant. It was confirmed by Jeremy Bastian @ C2E2 that he hand stamped the price and logo on each 1st print of CPG and that these had not been stamped. He was going to get rid of them, but we were able to persuade him not to. One of only 5 that are known to exist. Rock solid NM and the glare in the shot is the reflection from the bag. The sig is completely clean. Sorry.
