What books do you get slabbed?

32 posts in this topic

For those of you who submit either directly, or indirectly, what are the criteria for you submitting your books?

Value?

Resale?

Does the book already exist in a reprint collection?

All of the above? Be specific please, if you only slab books worth more than the slabbing fee, share that as well.

Thanks in advance.

I usually slab books that are worth money. That way if something happens to me my wife will be able to distinguish my expensive books from the drek. Although I do have one book I submitted just because I liked the cover and wanted to display it. (Iron Man 128)

If the book is high grade and is valued $100 or more, I'd consider slabbing it merely to protect it. I guess that would be preservation. A good example would be a high grade Adams Batman or Miller Daredevil where you can easily find a low-grade copy or a reprint for reading.

I buy slabbed books.

As far as would I slab one? Depends on if I have any "Grading Certificates" left over.

I've slabbed a few, but everything I've slabbed I used a coupon (except one onsite that someone else had done for me).

But why do you slab? What constitutes a "Slabbable" book for you?

I guess I'd mostly do it for resale purposes.

Two books I did were b/c they were peds. Both have been subsequently traded (one a long time ago in a galaxy far away, and the other just last summer).

A few others b/c they were keys; so I guess value for the most part.

Yeah, mainly value and/or eventual liquidity.

if it is a 9.8, whether to keep or sell, I like to slab it if it is worth at least $50. I have plenty of raw 9.8 bronze books that won't fetch even $25 in a slab so they will stay raw.

I have damaged many raw 9.8 over the years from dropping them and blunt the corners or bent the corners when sliding them into the bag, etc...too many accidents over the years that I learned, if it is a 9.8 and it is worth something, protect it. I have plenty of lower grade readers so beat those up.

I've slabbed a total of 7 books in the last 10 years: in each instance it was because I wanted to advertise it online. Insofar as I'm concerned, that's the ONLY reason to slab a book.

Heh heh, love my VG raws...

You wouldn't dare crack open a Action #1 would you?

If I had the money to own one, why would I care

:gossip: That's a good question for all you collectors out there as well.
