Cincinnati Comic Expo! - Sept 18, 2010 - Russ Heath, Tony Moore, Allen Bellman

146 posts in this topic

In conjunction with the Cincinnati Comic Expo and CGC we are excited to announce that we will be an Authorized CGC Signature Series Facilitator for the show. We will have an unlimited number of slots open for Russ Heath, Allen Bellman and Tony Moore.

Russ Heath

(THIS IS RUSS HEATH’S ONLY SHOW SINCE MAY 2009. HE HAS NO OTHER EVENTS PLANNED FOR 2010 or 2011. DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY.)

Born in New York in 1926, Russ Heath joined Timely in 1946, where he began drawing for several different genres but particularly westerns, including Arizona Kid, Two-Gun Kid, and Kid Colt Outlaw. Heath went on to draw science fiction stories for Avon, romance stories for Lev Gleason, and Plastic Man for Quality. In the early 1950s, he worked on such EC titles as Mad and Frontline Combat for editor Harvey Kurtzman, with whom he also worked on Trump.

During the 1950s, he worked for DC/National, where he drew for the full range of adventure features, such as "Golden Gladiator" and "Robin Hood" in Brave and the Bold. But he was particularly noted for drawing war titles such as Sea Devils, Our Army at War (Sgt. Rock), and G.I. Combat ("The Haunted Tank"). From 1981 to 1984, he worked on a revived version of The Lone Ranger for the New York Times Syndicate. In 1991 he drew the official adaptation of the movie version of The Rocketeer. Since then, Heath has spent most of his time in the animation industry.

Allen Bellman

(THIS IS ALLEN’S FIRST COMIC SHOW IN THE REGION. DO NOT MISS OUT)

Allen Bellman was born in Manhattan and studied at the High School of Industrial Arts. He eventually became a staff artist at Timely during the Golden Age of comics. While still a teenager, he did the backgrounds for Syd Shores' Captain America in 1942, and eventually worked on titles such as: The Patriot, The Destroyer, The Human Torch, Jap Buster Johnson and Jet Dixon of the Space Squadron, All Winners Comics, Marvel Mystery, Sub Mariner Comics, Young Allies and so much more.

His self-created back-up crime feature Let's Play Detective. He also contributed to pre-Code horror, crime, war and western tales for Atlas.

He worked in the comics field until the early 1950s. After the publishing business Allen became a successful businessman, and after 18 years he moved down here to South Florida where he joined the art department of a major daily newspaper, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel. After that he went into photography. He won many nationwide photography contests, winning out more than 20,000 entries. Photography is the way he now creates. Hundreds of his photos have appeared in hardcover books, have been on exhibit in museums in Florida and received great reviews in numerous newspapers.

He still attends comic books shows, and is still available for commissions. In one of his most recent interviews in the Miami Herald, he was described as an artist who now paints with his camera. For more about Allen, please check out www.allenbellman.com

Tony Moore

(WALKING DEAD, FEAR AGENT – TONY HAS BEEN VERY ELUSIVE AT COMIC APPEARANCES. THIS IS YOUR ONLY SIG SERIES OPPURTUNITY SINCE LAST YEAR’S WIZARD’S SHOW IN CHICAGO AND YOUR ONLY OPPORTUNITY THIS YEAR. DON’T MISS OUT!)

Tony is a small-town guy from Kentucky, raised by a pack of wild televisions. He has been a fan of comics before he could read, and seldom dreamed of becoming anything other than a comic book illustrator.

He has been in the business since 1999, when he started work on Battle Pope. Since then, he has lent his hands to books such as Masters of the Universe, Brit, the Eisner Award-nominated series The Walking Dead, and his own creator-owned books Fear Agent and The Exterminators

Murphy Anderson

Due to the sensitivity of the situation all Murphy Anderson Signature Series requests will be processed through Andrew Satterfield (Buck Biggins). Mr. Anderson will be signing for the fans at the show but general signatures will not be authorized for Signature Series approval.

However, in an effort to raise funds for Josh Meoders cancer treatment I have arranged a private signing with Murphy prior to the show for the CGC Signature Series. As with all the CGC private sigings at the show each book signed will incur a fee. As of now, this is the only way to obatin a CGC Signature Series by Murphy Anderson at the Expo. The number of slots for this signing will be very limited and will have a strict limit of 1 book per person. A seperate posting will be made availble within 48 hours on this Murphy Anderson signing.

Again, he will be siging for fans in general and I do not anticipate him charging for signatures. The show will impose a 3 book limit per person.

Rumor has it...he will be providing a blank sketch cover to be donated into the charity auction. WOW!

TO PARTICIPATE:

1) Email a list of books you are sending for the signature series label to: andrew@cincinnaticomicexpo.com

2) Prep your books

Great work, Andrew. I've been involved with comics for a long time, and have seen few show promoters who have put something together this solid from the ground up and from scratch. This is going to be awesome!!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 12, 2010

MEANWHILE, AT THE HALL OF JUSTICE...

In 1973 the “Super Friends” made its debut on TV. The classic cartoon series starred the world’s most powerful superheroes and their headquarters was the magnificent Hall of Justice. To local residences Cincinnati’s Union Terminal is the Hall of Justice.

“No one can deny that Union Terminal was the inspiration for the Hall of Justice. The resemblance is too uncanny,” says Andrew Satterfield, Director of the Cincinnati Comic Expo. “As a kid growing up in the 80’s I would stare out the car window and look for the Hall of Justice every time we drove downtown. If was cool to think that superheroes lived in my hometown.”

A few months ago Union Terminal asked the Cincinnati Comic Expo to include some promotional pieces featuring the historic structure that is now home to three museums and the Omnimax Theater. In doing the promotional piece they hope to raise further awareness of the building’s preservation.

Therefore, we are pleased to release below finished piece by Dave Aikins!

“Dave was all over this opportunity once I explained to him the request,” says Andrew. The image will be released as a free poster at the Cincinnati Comic Expo. Dave, who currently draws for Nickelodeon (SpongeBob Squarepants and Dora the Explorer), incorporated Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman and Aquaman into the art. Below them rest the Real Hall of Justice, Union Terminal.

This is the 2nd piece of art released for the show. The first piece drawn by Allen Bellman incorporated Captain America, Submariner and Human Torch battling around the Roebling Suspension Bridge.

When we receive the remaining promotional piece from another artist we will show you their talent incorporating a Cincinnati landmark with a superhero theme.

PLEASE NOTE: The first 600 fans will recieve a free poster for attending. However, only 300 will be made for each design. So arrive early to pick your choice of poster.

Greatest. One-Day. Show. Ever.

+1

:whee:

Thanks guys. This show for the last 3 months has been a labor of love. It is something I aways wanted to do. The Cincinnati Comic Expo is the show I would want to attend as a comic fan.

Meanwhile, I learned today that we just hit 60 comic creators for the show!

Also, John Kiesewetter of the Cincinnati Enquirer interviewed Micahel Uslan today. They are going to run a feature about the show along with his interview.

Another interview with a Tony Moore is being planned the last I heard.

Other interviews are being arranged prior to the show for more publicity.Such as an interview on 700WLW with Jim Scott and the Dawn Patrol on 102.7 WEBN. Also found out that our show poster is going to open up the Event Calender section in Cincinnati Magazine later this month. Cincinnati Magazine is distributed to 50,000 homes.

So in other words...I'm doing all I can to make sure the people in our region know about the show.

MOONSTONE and CAPTAIN ACTION DEBUT SKETCH COVER AT CINCINNATI COMIC EXPO

New York, NY, August 19, 2010:

Moonstone Books and Captain Action Enterprises, LLC, are pleased to announce their first “Sketch Cover” variant for Captain Action #1.

As part of the inaugural Cincinnati Comic Expo, Moonstone will be presenting this unique alternate cover to Captain Action (Season 2) #1 as a way for fans and professionals to sketch their own cover.

“Like the new Cincinnati convention, we think this will be a lot of fun,” said Joe Gentile, Publisher of Moonstone Books.

This exclusive sketch cover will be available as part of the VIP package and at the Moonstone Booth during the convention on September 18, 2010.

This issue marks the “second season” of adventures for the recently relaunched toy hero. Captain Action was originally a 1960’s action figure, but has recently returned in the hit Moonstone series and via other partners including Graphitti’s T-shirts, Pop Merchandising’s enamel pins and Sideshow’s collectible statues.

Season 2 is scripted by Steven Grant, and features Captain Action in full-length stories. Second feature stories spotlight other characters in the Captain Action universe and will first focus on Action Boy in a multi-part adventure. Cover and interior artists for the series include Mike Allred, Mark Texiera, Ed Hannigan, Mark Wheately, Manuel Martin, Reno Maniquis, Steve Scott and recent SVA graduate/rising talent Matt Triano.

“We’re happy to be part of the Cincinnati Comic Expo and excited that Murphy Anderson, the first Captain artist will be there. Steve Scott, our latest Captain Action artist will also join us,“ said Ed Catto of Captain Action Enterprises, LLC.

“The Midwest region, especially Cincinnati, is filled with talent. There are also many well-established comic book stores that have long served the loyal fan base. Cincinnati deserves a platform to showcase the region’s talent and to give fans a show they can look forward to every year in their own backyard. Most major cities have a pop culture show of some sort. It’s finally time for Cincinnati to have a show of its own,” according to Cincinnati Comic Expo Director Andrew Satterfield.

“It makes sense for the hero of many disguises to have this sketch cover. Fans can make the comic become whatever they want it to be“, said Joe Ahearn of Captain Action Enterprises, LLC.
