Atlas Sub-Mariner--nice ones!

7 posts in this topic

Greetings! Hope everyone has had a pleasant weekend. A few nice Atlas Sub-Mariner books this evening, all featuring oodles of fabulous art by Bill Everett. All prices include first-class domestic postage; insurance is extra, as is international shipping. As always, :takeit: claims the prize, but I will be happy to entertain offers made via PM.

Sub-Mariner #37 (12/54), featuring a nifty Joe Maneely cover plus 19 pages of Everett art (3 stories) and a back-up by Mort Lawrence, in beautiful FN-VF condition, with light spine stress and a very light 1" corner crease on the top of the cover. Brilliant color and super gloss on the cover, and very supple cream to off-white pages. $395

Sub-Mariner #38 (2/55), featuring a Syd Shores cover plus 18 pages of Everett art and a back-up by Joe Maneely, in ultra-attractive VF- condition, with dings and very light creases on the cover and light erasures on the edges of the back cover. Terrific color and gloss on the cover, and very supple cream to off-white pages. Also features a Namora appearance and the origin of Sub-Mariner's wings. A really nice looking book! $550

Sub-Mariner #39 (4/55), featuring a Joe Maneely cover plus 19 pages of Everett art and a back-up by Howie Post, in sharp VG-FN condition. This looks better but there is puckering along the spine and edge on both covers, indicating exposure to moisture but without staining anywhere. The bottom staple shows light tarnish but no rust and, again, no stains. Deep, rich color and plenty of gloss on the cover, and outstanding off-white pages. $250

Sub-Mariner #40 (6/55), featuring a fantastic cover plus 19 pages of art by Everett and a back-up by Tony DiPreta, in gorgeous VF condition, with only a thin sun shadow along the cover edge holding it back from a higher grade. Dazzling color and smooth, flat gloss on the cover, and wonderful off-white pages. This one will knock you out! $600

Sub-Mariner #41 (8/55), featuring a cool Joe Maneely cover plus 19 pages of Everett art and a back-up called Swordfish by an unknown artist (perhaps still Everett?), in really sharp VG-FN condition, with a 6" corner crease on the bottom of the cover and a 4" one on the bottom of the back cover. There are several dings and light creases on the covers, but none detracts much from the nice appearance of the book. Radiant color and very nice gloss on the cover, and very supple off-white pages, also lightly creased on the bottom corners. $250

Sub-Mariner #42 (10/55), featuring a Carl Burgos cover (I would have said Brodsky) plus 19 pages of Everett art and a back-up Viking story by Art Peddy, in VG-FN condition, with light wear and creasing along the spine, small corner creases on the bottom of the cover, and light superficial stains (foxing, perhaps) on the back cover. The last issue of the series. $265
