OT - Kansas City Burglary Ring Busted - Numerous items recovered

7 posts in this topic

In the last couple of days the Kansas City Police Department busted a burglary ring (story below). In the new reports that have followed they have mentioned recovering comic books along with guns, tools, and electronics, so if any board members or friends or family of board members living in the Kansas City metro who might have been a victim of a burglary of their home or storage unit may want to check with the Kansas City Police Department.

"KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Police have recovered a significant amount of stolen property following the investigation of an armed robbery in the Waldo area Sunday morning, and would like to find the rightful owners.

The armed residential robbery took place at 209 W. 78th Terrace, and in the course of investigating, property crimes detectives found large amounts of stolen property taken in other burglaries. They recovered 56 guns, electronics, construction equipment, wheels, tires, valuable comic books and collectibles.

Offciers say that they have already returned an $80,000 piece of stolen survey equipment to a company that thought it would never see it again. Police say that this is just the beginning of what's expected to be a long process of tracking down theft victims.

"This is a really big find, it's a substantial amount of money that we're going to be able to return to people," said Sgt. Brad Lemmon of the Metro Property Crimes Division. "But this is kind of the way we want to do business now. Instead of just concentrating on the thieves, if we can start arresting and identifying places that have a substantial amount of stolen property in them it would be the best way for us to do business."

According to police, a reported armed robbery at the home on Sunday morning is what first brought police to the house. One of the people who lived there had been shot in the leg in the incident, but police are now calling that shooting victim a person of interest in the theft of all the stolen goods they found inside.

Neighbor Blair Cave says that Sunday's incident wasn't the first time someone attempted to rob the people in that house.

"About three weeks ago they caught a guy trying to break into their house or rob them or do something," said Cave. "They caught him and chased him off."

Police say they've already traced one of the stolen guns to southern Missouri. Detectives also found narcotics, including heroin, inside the house. They say the thefts may be just the tip of the iceberg that reveals a nest of illegal activity.

Police are asking anyone who was burglarized recently in the Waldo area or who had construction equipment stolen to call the Metro Patrol Property Crimes Division at (816) 234-5525 to schedule an appointment to see if any of the stolen property belongs to them."

People would be surprised at the small number of criminals committing a high number of crimes. If you can catch one or two dirtballs in a burglary, you're usually guaranteed at closing multiple cases.

These clowns are cluing in on comics. I hope you all have your property well documented and marked.

My department worked a case with Kansas City property crimes where we knew of 3 victims going into a search warrant for stolen property and came out with 20-25 more.

If it is of anything of value it is not safe when a "tweaker" is needing a fix.
