Yeah, my scanner does that automatically for some reason. It's quite an old model, I really should replace it I suppose.

Try leaving the cover open and putting a piece of 8-1/2x11 paper over the book...

Thanks guys. Any other guestimates welcome! I was hoping it might be a little higher than 3.5 but that seems to be the consensus at the moment.
