Ok, I'm a newbie so explain how the scan is too cropped? Or what is the best way to scan?

Don't crop so close to the edges. Also put a dark background behgind it, like a piece of Black construction paper.

 

But I will guess 5.0

Ditto, the edges must be clearly visible. Some of the background should be seen all the way around the book.
