Anyone ever get back "the one that got away?"

Amazing Spider-Man #14. It was my favorite comic when I was a kid. I bought it as a back issue in 1983 for $12 in VG. I had been drooling over it for six months as it sat on the wall of my local comics store near where I grew up. I finally went in one day with enough money (which I earned mowing lawns) and bought it. I sold it, along with the bulk of my collection, when I moved to SF for law school in 1994.

I just bought it back last year as a CGC VF+ 8.5. I know I will sound like a total dork saying this, but I nearly wept with joy on the day it arrived. cloud9.gif

Anyone remember that episode of Different Strokes from around '81 when Arnold stole the ASM 14?

I definitely remember the episode. I thought it was an ASM #1 though.

Back in the HEY! days of the late '80's when the Punisher mini series

was at the top of the hot new isssues, I sold a Punisher mini 1 to a good

customer off the wall for a small discount. If memory serves it was $40

on the wall, and I probably sold it for $30. A few weeks later at a small

con, Eric approached me at the table and asked if I'd like to buy the

book back, he understood the economics of the situation and we agreed

on a $20 or so price, and I bought the book. Fast forward again to

another show a few months later, and Eric shows up again to buy

the Punisher Mini 1 again. A few months later Eric pawned the copy

to me again at the store. By this time we had become fast friends,

and I offered this smart young man a parttime position at my southside

store. Within three months the stores sales had doubled and I promoted

Eric to store manager. With all due respect to all the members of this

board, I have never met someone with the detailed memory or the comic

book business savy of Big Eric. We closed the last store in 95, but

Big Eric is still with me, if we do a small con I can always count on him

to be beside me dragging long boxes and setting up the wall. I also have

not sold him the mini 1 yet, I hold it fondly over his head and ask him if

he has a few extra bucks. This always puts a smile on his face.

I'm very fortunate to have a few friends like Big Eric. I count my blessings

and thank the BIG MAN UPSTAIRS for folks like him.
