The Absolute Hardest to Find 90's books.

I wanted to ask, what are the toughest Marvel books from the 90's. Not rare promo's and variants but actual regular issues. After the big comic bust in the early 90's the print runs on some titles were really low, much lower than demand for those issues now.

I'm talking about stuff such as the last few issues of Transformers, G.I Joe, Conan, etc. Hell even ASM in the early to mid 400's had a low print run in relation to current demand that some of these books often go for over $20 each.

Anyone know much about the last issues of Transformers? How low was the low print runs on the last few books? Are they actually that hard to find...or not?

Starting at around issue 70 or 71 they started having low print runs. I have had ok luck with finding later issues in the wild. About 6 months ago i found a dealer at a local flea market and picked up #79 and 80 for a buck. The 79 was vf/nm and the #80 was around fine. NOt super hard to find but hard to find in good condition .

Yeah, I picked up #79 and #80 for 5 bucks yesterday - from an ex-retailer.

He had a run from about #20-80 and I was wondering whether it was worth picking up #70-77 (no #78 unfortunately), just from a collection POV - not interested in ever selling them. I try to collect runs that are genuinely hard to find, if I can grab them at a good price - but I'm not sure if the print runs on these Transformers issues were relatively low or genuinely low.. hm

I'd love to know how many of each of the last 10 issues were printed but I'm not sure that it's possible to find out hm

Weren't several of the Broadway Comics books limited to 500?

I don't know if they'd qualify (though I also am not aware of scale of the field we are dealing with).

Someone may be aware of some tougher variants that are beyond my knowledge, but the two toughest Broadway books for me have been Miracle on Broadway which was said to have a print run of just over 1k, and the hardcover for Fatale: Inherit the Earth. The last I checked Mile High, they had a copy of the former slabbed for an absurd price, and the last I saw the latter I lost out on in the lower 3 figures on ebay (to, I think, a member of the VALIANT fan boards -- some $200+ or so). The latter was limited (at least according to an advertisement) to 250 numbered copies.

Chuck sold his slabbed Miracle on Broadway 9.2 for in the neighborhood of $1200. I have a raw copy in comparable grade.

Strangers In Paradise #2 (1993 edition, Antarctic Press)

None of the 1st volume SIP's are particularly difficult to find - in 9.8, sure, but if you don't care about condition, they show up on ebay pretty regularly.

I was trusting Overstreet's comment of "2,300 printed".

That is probably correct. The indicia usually indicated the print run on Antarctic comics from that period and I was thinking in the 3,000 range. I sold my set, but had an extra of #3 that's still in my collection.

I was digging through the dollar boxes at a local Vintage Stock store this past weekend as it was one of their BOGO sale weekends. Found a bunch of nice books in there but the best was this X-Men #303 Gold Pressman Variant in nice shape. This makes the 5th copy I've had and the 3rd I found at this particular Vintage Stock store.

The only 9.8 (none in universal, one in signature series)...

(I can't afford the better book... the only 9.8 of SIP #1... RMA has it on eBay for $2,000. My SIP #1 is a lowly 9.6.) :sorry:

I thought SIP was entertaining, but after awhile it all seemed the same. There are more enjoyable items I could buy for $2000. I bought my set of 1-3 for $10 a piece from a guy at a small convention that was just walking around with a box of comics he wanted to sell. I knew there was something to it, so I was willing to overpay to get copies. After I bought them, I asked several of the dealers what they thought the set was actually worth. They all looked at me with an expression of confusion and said "What is it?" A few months later they took off in the press and were in serious demand. I sold the set and capitalized on the popularity.

Bondage Fairies was more entertaining.
