Your Scanner of Choice is...?

Gentlemen,

 

I'm looking to purchase a scanner with which I can digitally capture my OA collection. I've heard of the Mustec models, but can anyone offer a viable alternative (preferably, one that doesn't come attached to some of the horror stories I've heard about Mustecs)?

 

The perfect model would not only be able to capture the 11" x 17" format of most of my pages, but also be able to accept 12" x 12", so that my wife would be able to use it for her scrapbooking pages. It would also cost less than $500.00, as I'm not independently wealthy.
