How does that change the grade CGC decides to give a book?

it doesn't.....

I'm liking this approach..

Nik would approve

Nik is both laughing and shaking his head looking down at us. This has been exactly what it is supposed to be fun! His friends really did know him well enough to pull this off properly. Thanks guys!

Here's my thinking on the last round:

"Man, it sure looks like a 7.0, but that last book got a severely-overgraded 9.4 so I better up my guess by quite a bit." lol

Severely over graded? How is a bump from a 9.2 to a 9.4 severely over graded?

My eventual grade was a 9.0 (9.1 actually, but that doesn't exist with CGC) so I already bumped it to a 9.2. :insane:

Seriously, like I said, I meticulously graded the first book and because that didn't work, I totally guessed on the second. But it's all for fun anyway, right? (shrug)

Fun and charity. Lets make this an enjoyable and memorable event. Please remember why it is happening and try and keep anything that in unnecessary to an absolute minimum.

Actual Joey, this seems just like all of Nik's grading contests. Except you guys are more up front with some of the hidden problems. Nik would throw up the scan, then I would send him a PM with about 10 questions on the book. God love him, I must have driven him crazy with all of the questions I would ask. Everyone could ask, I don't know how the man ever repaired any cars during grading contests.

But even then people would still complain about things. If someone searched the threads of all the past contests that Nik had you find all of the same complaints. I'm sure I'm in a lot of those complaing why some book shouldn't have been a 9.6, I think Nik realized that you couldn't make everyone 100% happy.

I think Nik is looking down on us and having a good laugh, because he really enjoyed these contests. He loved toying with us, but I think he did get ticked about some of the complaints, but he would let most of them ride. He knew most of us appreciated all of the work he put into the contest. Just as I really appreciate all of the work that all of you are putting into this contest.

Thank you all again for giving us a true Nik grading contest!

...and here I felt bad for asking 1 or 2 questions...

:tonofbricks:

These are Nik's answers to questions I on one book in 2005 (actually I had to put in the answer to number 7 myself) I don't know what the original questions were, in that time in replying to PMs you didn't have a copy of the original. But, this was when I didn't ask too many questions. The man was a saint for putting up with all of my stupid questions.

1 no

2 no

3 small, due to SCS

4 no overhang, or anything funky going on with bootom edge

5 negative

6 tiny blunt mark

7 (thumbs u :baiting:

What Toro neglects to mention is that for Nik's 2005 Grading Contest, he actually placed Third behind Arty and eventual winner Redhook. (thumbs u

And this was after an Overtime Playoff. :gossip:

Toro, of course, has won the last two Nik's Grading Contests.

Will he win a third straight championship?

Or will someone new step forward to claim the throne? :acclaim:

It doesn't, but it does change how some may view the books. Previous contests had many different grades, but these were all "mistakes" with someone missing a stain, a rip, rust on the staples, light sub creases, etc. etc. and were not hand-picked to elicit a range of grades specifically for a contest.

Now that I know this fact it does change how I view the comics in this contest.

I would put money on my choking! I would like to 3-peat, but there are way to many good graders in this contest. My goal is top 10.

Quick question - direct hit gives you 5 points, one off gets 3 and two off gets 1 point and everybody else gets -1. I assume if you don't give a grade then you get zero points with a risk of being eliminated. Sucks that I would have done better without a grade at all.

I guessed at a 8.0 because the top corner looked production in nature. Bottom edge was kind of fugly but I would be very happy getting a FN+ in the mail that looked like that.
