Round 9 Commentary

Storm clouds rumble overhead as the emergence of a major Marvel key unnerves all three frontrunners. Canickus and He11blazer, disoriented by the legendary Kirby cover, flail wildly and drop to Fourth Place. Toro, despite managing ONLY ONE point when the average points per round was OVER THREE, barely hangs on to the lead!

Moving up to a tie for First Place is bryan91, currently the MOST CONSISTENT grader in the competition, and Dcman, who has quietly lurked in the Top Ten until making his move in ROUND 9! :acclaim:

Dropping out of the Top Ten are etanick, mrlatko, Mutie Fan and zuckuss2003. :(

Contestants to watch: ckp1680, The Resurrection, Flaming_Telepath and Shark, all of whom notch their third bullseye in a row!

Newcomers Masamune69 and *Bronze age fan* both start off strong with bullseyes and an immediate Five Points. (thumbs u

An EASY Round 9 ends with 87% of the contestants getting within +/- 1 grade.

Good luck with Round 10!

I take solace in the fact that:

1) I didn't cheat (past sales/census look ups, seriously)

1.5) I never graded a book in my life before this competition

1.8) I'm up again some of the best graders IN THE WORLD ;)(worship)

(and a few non-players has me bet as well but let's not talk about that)

Note: Photobucket has cached some images that have been replaced. There were actually 118 guesses and 43 bullseyes. 87% of the grades were within +/- 1 grade.

The images will probably fix themselves later. (thumbs u

Just because somebody sold a raw copy as a 1.5 does not make the book a CGC 1.5.

Seriously, no cheating was done.

I gave it the grade of 1.0 because that is what I think it should be.

Geeez.

Seriously, no cheating was done

No cheating, but lots and lots and lots and lots of in-depth research and data mining.

I went back and it was simplicity itself to *exactly* identify 6 of the first 9 grades, and get between 2-3 choices on the other 3.

I tried the same strategy on the Iron Man and nailed it no problem. But that's not why I'm here, as evidenced by my CGC 1.8 guess on AF 15 - I went back right after and properly identified it could have either been a CGC 1.5 (highest percentage) or 1.0 (dark horse), and really nothing else.

And isn't it amazing that CGC 1.5 was the runaway choice, followed only by CGC 1.0... mehmeh

Exactly. The first thing I do is grab books from my own collection that I think are near that grade I want to give the book and use those as a scale.

After all I am trying to guess how CGC will grade it.
