Pedigree Comics' Grand Auction Ends Beginning Wednesday Evening!

1 post in this topic

Attention high grade CGC collectors! Our current Grand Auction ends beginning on Wednesday, January 19th, starting at 4:59 p.m. EST with the first half of lots (80 Page Giant #1 7.0 through Green Lantern #80 9.6) and closes on Thursday, January 20th at 4:59 p.m. EST with the remaining lots (Green Lantern #85 9.8 through Zorro #1 9.2). The auction began the night of Sunday, January 9th with 842 great books to choose from in the separate, Grand Auction section of our Web site (www.PedigreeComics.com). Every comic in the auction is CGC graded and there is no Buyers Premium. The minimum bid is $100.00 and most of the books listed in the auction have no reserve.

This Grand Auction is not only one of our best to date, in terms of the amount of fabulous, ultra high grade material, but it stands as one of the best online auction events ever for quality CGC graded Silver and Bronze Age Marvels and DC’s, plus some choice Golden Age DC’s and Fawcetts. There is literally something for every high grade collector and/or investor out there, with sought after comic books ranging in value from $100 to $30,000. We have some incredible runs of high grade books from many significant 1960’s titles, highlighted by one of the very best original owner runs of 1960’s Avengers ever brought to market, and a very nice group (over 125 books) of investment quality, early Silver Age Marvels and DC’s from the incredible original owner Bogota Collection that was consigned to us in the Summer of 2010.

We have some fabulous keys and first appearance issues, including a beautiful 9.0 copy of X-Men #1 featuring the origin and first appearance of the X-Men and the best existing example of Fantastic Four #48, a ridiculous NM/M 9.8 CGC Signature SERIES with white pages. Famous for containing the first appearance of both the Silver Surfer and Galactus, this hugely popular book was recently signed by Stan Lee on September 4, 2010 and is the ONLY Signature SERIES copy in 9.8. We also have the top of the line CGC Signature SERIES example (9.8 with off-white pages) of Journey Into Mystery #101, also signed by Stan Lee on September 4, 2010. Another great Silver Age Marvel being offered is the world’s best and single highest graded CGC Signature Series copy of Avengers #4, a strict 9.2 (NM-) with off-white pages. One of the most popular early 1960’s comic books and the second most valuable issue of the Avengers (behind only Avengers #1), the book features the first Silver Age appearance of Captain America. If you like Thor, then you might be interested in the second best existing copy of Thor #126 (first issue of the title), a stellar 9.6 with white pages, one of only four in 9.6 behind only one in 9.8.

In addition, there are many incredible individual books, sets and runs in the auction, more than can be listed in this Newsletter. Here are some of the highlights of the auction:

* Brand New Incredible Silver Age DC’s and Marvels From the Bogota Collection:

This original owner collection of nearly 5,000 high grade books out of Bogota, New Jersey is easily one of the better single owner collections ever offered for public sale and the nicest one ever consigned to Pedigree Comics. The initial portion of the collection (27 issues from Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four) debuted in Pedigree’s August Grand Auction with unbelievable results, including the record sale of the world’s only CGC graded 9.8 copy of Amazing Spider-Man #40 for $30,000, and over 75 more books from the collection just sold in our November, 2010 auction. This next group is not to be missed, containing over 125 early to mid 1960’s DC’s and Marvels in strictly graded condition.

* Ultra High Grade Original Owner Avengers Run:

This unbelievable group of over 40 books is one of the nicest original owner collections of Silver Age Avengers ever to hit the market and be offered for public sale. Most of the books are in 9.6 (Near-Mint +) condition with a few in 9.4 and a bunch(9) in 9.8! Only a couple grade less than 9.4 (9.2). Amazingly, over 25 have WHITE pages and the rest have off-white to white. The books are further characterized by unreal cover gloss, perfect to near-perfect centering and flawless spines, evidence that these books were never read or opened. The run starts with Avengers #11 and ends with #71, covering over a five year span of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The books come from a single owner collector who lived on the East Coast of the United States. He bought each issue from the same newsstand month after month, only picking out the very best looking copy he could find. The books were then stored in a climate controlled room in his house (which explains the unreal page quality), rarely ever being moved, filed or looked at. The lack of any handling defects is a testament to the original owner’s careful and determined methods of preservation.

*Ultra High Grade Daredevil Group:

There are over 20 9.4 and higher Daredevils between #1 and #90 to choose from in this group. Most are in 9.6 grade with a couple in 9.8.

* Amazing Ultra High Grade Bronze Marvel Consignment:

This is an amazing selection of obscure, scarce, hard-to-find, low-census, High-Grade Bronze Age Marvel treasures that rarely, or almost-never, surface for sale. The collection consists of over 65 9.4 and higher books. Many of the books in the consignment are very unique and most likely will not become available for purchase for a few years, especially in the CGC grades offered. Almost half of the books (24) are in 9.8 (Near-Mint/Mint) condition, with 42 in 9.6!! Only a handful are in CGC certified 9.4! As an added bonus, almost every book has either white or off-white to white page quality, with the majority being “bone white”. The collection represents the nicest group of rare and obscure ultra high grade Bronze Marvel treasures ever offered for sale on Pedigree Comics, or anywhere else, for that matter. Prospective bidders should make a serious effort to be the high-bidder -- because the consignor will absolutely accept some high bids even if the reserve was not met and will also attempt to make "post-auction" deals via counter offers with *only* the high-bidder. In addition, multiple purchases/wins from this group and/or interest in multiple items from this lot post auction will result in much better opportunities for buyers. Buyers interested in several items could make deals that otherwise would not be possible in traditional auction formats because volume interest/volume discounting isn't possible. Please contact Pedigree Comics’ CEO, Doug Schmell, for any questions and more details regarding this promotional feature. This is a great opportunity to purchase some very hard to find 1970’s Marvel gems in never offered for sale condition.

*Just Graded Group of Killer Silver & Bronze Age Marvels & DC’s:

We recently got these incredible books back from the CGC and many of them will be the highlight of the auction. These new books were just certified and were listed in the Auction over the weekend prior to the auction commencement. Out of these 70 books, almost all are in 9.6 or 9.8 grade, with just a handful in 9.4. Please refer to the Latest News section of the Web site (www.PedigreeComics.com) for more information and the highlights of this freshly certified group.

*High Grade Harvey File Copies:

This consignment of 40 books is one of the best groups of Harvey File Copies we have ever seen. Most of the books are in strictly graded 9.4 and higher with a bunch in 9.6 and 9.8. There are many titles to choose from, including Baby Huey; Baby Huey and Papa; Casper’s Ghostland; Devil Kids; Friendly Ghost Casper; Hot Stuff; Richie Rich Dollars and Cents; Richie Rich Millions; Richie Rich Success Stories; Spooky; Spooky Spooktown; Wendy; Wendy Witch World and Wendy, the Good Little Witch.
