Something's Wrong Here - dukes1collectibles - Scammer?

12 posts in this topic

This Marvel Mystery Comics #12 was just listed by dukes1collectibles on eBay

But this same book has previously "sold" twice already on eBay by the same seller in a row.

Once) http://cgi.ebay.com/Marvel-Comic-12-Classic-Cover-Timely-Golden-Age-/310292358217

Twice) http://cgi.ebay.com/Marvel-Comic-12-Classic-Cover-Timely-Golden-Age-/260735692996

Something seems very wrong here.

-EDIT-

We discussed this before (I forgot doh!)

From PointFive with another example, who summed it up pretty good:

Might as well post this here too.

"dukes1collectibles" on ebay has been quite a busy bee.

Because "grading is subjective", hm

this mouse-chewed Fair/Good Marvel Mystery #43 sold to him last week:

... is now being sold by him as a GVG:

(back cover has been carefully cropped to hide the worst of the damage)

He's had a similar revelation with this Fair/Good Marvel Mystery #48 sold to him last week:

http://cgi.ebay.com/MARVEL-MYSTERY-COMICS-48-TIMELY-1943-FAIR-GOOD-1-5_W0QQitemZ370338245984QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5639e12d60

now listed as a GVG in his current auction:

Be careful out there, folks.

Yep, we've discussed this guy here before. Overgrading, shilling, poorly cropped scans and just general shadiness.

I see his auctions now say "private listing - bidders' identities protected" when you look at the bid history. Always the sign of a seller with nothing to hide. doh! Why does ebay even allow this nonsense?

Aren't ebay bidders' identities protected adequately enough as it is? Private listings / auctions should be ended by ebay...it's a ridiculous loophole.

I'm suspicious of this guy too, as he ran auctions for about four different raw 3.5-looking copies of Black Terror # 7, that all looked the same. After months of not hitting the reserve, at least three of those copies showed completed sales.

Call me skeptical, but I doubt this guy found a hoard of even low-grade copies of that issue.

Once I see one of their auctions - I immediately walk away.

Ditto, although I silently grit my teeth knowing I've been fooled into clicking on one of his auctions. They're fairly easy to spot.

I have bid on his books many times but never won...or perhaps I wanted to bid but couldn't justify bidding overguide as an opening bid. There are many dealers on ebay that flip books immediately or resale the same item two or three times. I am sure that 50% have shills bidding you up. If you bid reasonably they won't get your money. Flea market people often overprice items and then get angry and hostile if you offer them something near the price guide value. Other people accuse you of stealing their books after you buy them at a 20% discount. Big dealers and small are dishonest when it comes to buying and selling. Remember it is business. You aren't going to make friends by selling cheap or buying high. Comic book shows... they call them Cons for more than one reason. :gossip:
