Removing Shadow on WF #3?

5 posts in this topic

Started a sales thread recently and posted this book, I would like to keep it, but I don't like looking at what I believe is a dust/stacking shadow. Please let me know if this can be safety removed (non-restored and non-grade reducing upon resubmission). I didn't submit the book, so I won't be able to answer many questions, but let me know if you have any. Thank you!

Sorry if something like this has been posted before, the search feature and I are not friends.

That is a serious shadow. But is it responsible for the 4.0 grade? Or is there something else relegating it to 4.0? That book looks tight enough to grade higher than 4.0 even with that heavy shadow. You might want to call and get the graders notes to see what else is going on with the book, there might be something else holding it to 4.0.

Haven't attempted to call yet, I'll give it a shot sometime soon.

It can be washed and would come out very nice is my guess. Most likely CGC would detect the cleaning and give it a restored label though.

On the other hand, I have had a book washed and CGC not note the cleaning. You would be taking a chance.

I would say this is probably going to be the closest to the most accurate answer. Dry cleaning is the only non-restoration technique. Dry cleaning could reduce the shadow but not likely eliminated it and even less likely with what methods can be used in colored area's. Submitting a washed book in hopes of a blue label is taking a big gamble IMO. If you can move past the restored label part and just want the eye appeal returned then having it restored is a good way to go. (thumbs u
