Oh PLEASE all of you, if you wanna quote an earlier message, take the trouble to clean out all the C - R - A - P first, or else the ABYSMAL mess you can see on the above couple of posts happens, and you're lucky to end up with two postings per page.

C**t (the word!) is bandied about liberally over here, but not so much in the U.S. I may be wrong, but I think it's more of a taboo word in America.

 

It's far more taboo in America. Over here it's a show-stopper.

 

Yeah, American women go TOTALLY BALLISTIC when the words c**t or are used, even if not directed at them. So it's become extremely rarely used.

 

I'll always remember the scene from "The Song Remains the Same" where Peter Grant, Led Zep's manager, is taking some poor schmoes to task, calling them stupid c**t this and f******g c**t that. I watched this when I was a teenager growing up in HK, and my friends and I thought that was really cool new insult to use, and since we were living in a British colony, it must be okay for us to use it too. Man, did we get slapped silly by our girlfriends (who happened to be Americans).

Over there I knew it was different but I don't think it really hit home until I visited a site devoted to bashing TV chef (and spawn of satan) Jamie Oliver. It was called something along the lines of "The Jamie Oliver is a C**t Gallery" and featured the word at least fifty times a page in Photoshopped movie posters and advertisements

 

It's a showstopper, but has been used to great comedic effect on U.S. T.V., at least once. Have you seen the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Larry David writes an obit for an aunt and the paper typos the word "aunt" by replacing the "a" with a "c"?

 

The scene where the obit is read out in front of his family is priceless - and the "c" word must've been said twenty times, no less. I guess in this case it was all about context.

 

I've not seen the episode, but just reading your description of the scene and imagining it made me laugh so hard I started crying!

I'm old school on this but Andrea the Giant was the best. Those matches between him, King Kong Bundy and John Studd were the best!

 

Interesting that you mention Andre; I watched his "Biography" special on A&E last night. Did anyone else happen to catch it?

 

I was also a big fan of Andre when I was growing up. I've got some comps tapes of his matches if you'd like one.
