Mark Haspel is Taking a Leave of Absence

140 posts in this topic

Steve Borock is coming back for personality reasons.

Doug Schmell was considered but failed on the background check.

Transplant was considered but is too good looking for the job.

Jim (CGCworld) was also considered but failed the dress code.

I smell a new Rant and Rave segment coming.

Bob, you should throw your hat into the ring - maybe you'll finally get a chance to attend grading college!

Our senior grading team has been working together for almost a decade

So who is this comprised of? hm

Took about 30 seconds online to find out hm

http://www.cgccomics.com/about/the_graders.asp

Come on now. Wild speculation, unsubstantiated conspiracy theories and innuendos are so much more fun than reading the CGC website.

Killjoy. :P

I was just trying to save diva some trouble so it leaves him more free time for productive activities... such as sayyyyy... fisting himself.

You can't even ask a simple honest question around here. meh btw, some of us actually have jobs. :baiting:

Mark is liquidating his collection. :o

Is this kind of like Buffett selling all his shares?

Since he hasn't been allowed to buy (or sell) since 2000 does that mean all his books are raw?

I wonder if he will get them slabbed first.

Q: CGC is described as independent and third-party. What does that mean?

A: CGC does not buy or sell comic books and does not have a financial interest in the comic books that we certify. In fact, employees of CGC are prohibited from buying and selling comic books commercially.

It's probably a safe bet that "commercially" caveat on the prohibition wasn't tossed in randomly.

hm Interesting caveat there... I had never read much into that.

There's one sentence that sums up press release: "Mark will continue to work with CGC as a consultant during his leave."

Best of all worlds... Work with, not for CGC, free to deal comics commercially, while receiving income from CGC as a "consultant".

Unless I'm reading it wrong.

If you have any stained or sun/dust shadow books I would resend them in now for re-grading.

Seriously though, you raise an interesting point. Whoever takes over for Haspel will have his own pet peeves and want to make his own impression. We may see some slight changes in the grading philosophy.

Bob again from what I am hearing nobody is taking over anything.

The ship will continue to sail and wait for Mark to get back.

However I would assume in Mark's absence Paul Litch would maybe take a more proactive role even though after Borock left I see Paul as the face of CGC anyway. Paul PR is very good with dealers and customers. (thumbs u
