Mad #124, Eerie #9, Creepy #27 at Heritage

14 posts in this topic

I love the Frazetta cover on the Creepy #27, anyone else like it?

That's a great one for sure (thumbs u I have 'em but others may be interested in trying to win these. I've snagged some decent deals on Warren's in the Heritage Sunday auctions. Not as many magazine collectors bidding there I guess.

Thanks for pointing them out.

I'm promoting them as in i'm the consignor, the mags always sell cheap compared to the other stuff. Ive had the Mad over 25 yrs before I slabbed it. I love the Creepy's but since i have reader copies i can get rid of the high grade stuff. Actually I have several dozen items coming up for Heritage. By the way, I used to work for CGC, nice to meet you guys.

There's a seller's marketplace forum on here -- one is for selling directly to other message-board participants, and one is for alerting people to your auctions on eBay, Heritage and elsewhere. It's best to tell people about your sales there because otherwise these discussion boards would end up overloaded with auction posts.

That said, welcome to the boards, and I hope your sales do well. Funny you're getting rid of the high-grade stuff and keeping the low-grade stuff, because many collectors do the opposite. I'm a longtime Mad fan and love watching to see how much they sell for. I also have some Warren mags like Creepy.

You should tell us more about your collection, your history as a hobbyist and so on. Again, welcome the boards.

Thanks for the welcome and info on the other forum, doohickamabob. I should mention i've actually one of the long term members here- tho i hardly ever post. My profile will show ive been on the boards since 2003! Until this year i had about 8 posts in 8 yrs, which must be some kind of lurking record lol. (the whole tinme i worked for CGC i never went more than 1 day without visiting the chatboards, but never posted)

Ive been in the hobby since 1982, and had over 5,000 comics by the late 80's. In the early 90's i stopped buying new comics and became a golden age collector, mostly pedigrees. I worked for Diamond Distributors, Mile High Comics, and 2004-2005 I was Quality Control Specialist for CGC. I'm pretty much behind the scenes tho, and not as active in the hobby now.

Anyway, I collect original art only now, so getting rid of all the high grade comics stuff- thru heritage mainly. Its almost all gone already lol.

Cool background! Man, I wish I had been collecting in 1982. I'd like to go back in a time machine with about $50,000 (if I had $50,000) and buy up some of the deals available back then. I recently acquired an '80s-era Overstreet guidebook and the prices are laughably low: Suspense Comics #3 for a couple hundred bucks, etc. Sorry to hear you've sold off most of your fancier Golden Age stuff, but I hope you kept a small stash of your favorites. I also hope you post some of your Original Art in that forum (if you haven't already). I can't afford much in the way of OA but I have snagged a few Al Jaffee original Mad fold-in paintings, which makes me very happy. Anyway, welcome to the boards as a non-lurker. Sounds like you have a well of knowledge and I'm sure people will appreciate you chiming in on various subjects.

doohickamabob, thats cool you got a 80's price guide. Back before the internet, alot of us spend many hours reading every pg of the guide like a yearly rite of passage. Many hours of reading, for me my 1st i bought was the 1982 version. The price guide was where most of us learned about pedigrees and how to grade and just read about the history of comics!

Its kinda funny you have to promote your own items...isn't Heritage supposed to do that or is promoting on the CGC Message boards 'beneath' them now?

what did your DHOKF 2 go for? I bought a 9.2 slab of that from Heritage at what I thought was a "steal" of a price years back, but got driven crazy about how huge the darn slab was and decided to sell it...what a brute it was trying to unload that. 9.8 is different though, of course.

how did the creepy 27 do? that's a book I used to do a little hoard of because it's one of the less expensive frazetta covers out there and when i looked a year or two ago, there were maybe 2 or 3 copies for sale at any given time, now there are tons of them since Frazetta died.
