Maybe it is just me, but the Punisher is in the MAX line because of the gratuitous obscenities and gory art. I got exactly what I was expecting when I bought mine.

And how old are you again? 10 or 11?

Why is it that you automatically throw that age thing out whenever somebody mentions expecting or enjoying gratuitous violence and/or sex? Is it because you believe that everyone that likes that is immature? Is there no room in your world to believe that sometimes even brilliant mature people give in to normal human impulses and delight in simulated violence? Honestly... has there ever been a time when violence, especially simulated violence, hasn't been accepted and enjoyed by some of the most intellegent people of that time?

That said... I don't buy any of the comics with the sex and over the top violence (ex. Marvel Max line) in it. Just not my thing... I have movies for that.

In terms of funny books, pretty well.

They should keep the sex stuff out of comics. If ya want to see sex in comics go to a adult book store. They have sex comics. Explicate sex.

The whole idea of making regular comics MATURE READER comics always seemed kind of dumb to me anyway. Here you are reading about some guy that can fly or crush anything and then they try to make him seem real by adding "MATURE CONTENT". Give me a break.

He is an old fart who doesn't seem to have all the furniture arranged correctly upstairs, if you know what I mean. I am sure he also critics hardcore porn movies for not having enough dialogue. foreheadslap.gif

Well, that's one person's opinion. Personally, I really enjoy the stories more when the person has to deal with 'real world' issues.

Everyone is always yapping about how the main redeeming quality of Spider-Man is Peter Parkers angst and problems balancing his super powers with his relationship/school/job etc. Why take baby steps? why not take it all the way to the logical ending?

I don't want to read porno comics, but I also don't want to read sterile kiddie books anymore. I think the mature reader stuff is a great compromise. Sombody punches me in the face, I yell [!@#%^&^]!, not Drat!

If not reading childish, fanboy-oriented, sex-and-profanity-as-a-giggle-factor funny books makes me an "old fart" then I wear the title proudly.

After all, it's far better than being permanently stunted at 14 years old my entire life.

Better start selling your funny books or else some might think you are a hypocrite.

Looks like we have another schism in the comics world... escapist vs. realist.

While I come down on the side of the former, I will admit to liking the Hulk issue with the nude Betty Ross and the Avengers issue with the lightly-clad Scarlet Witch. However, I was 12 or so at the time.

As others have said, if the scenes are part of the story then they are fine. I actually didn't have much of a problem with the Hank/Jan scene. I had more of a problem with Marvel bending over backwards trying to say it wasn't what it was.

Thanks,

It's simple . Whenever you see the word "adult" in any entertainment context just substitute the word "juvenile" and then everything makes sense .

Adult web sites are for pubesant males and middle age men who are still pubesant.

The word purient always comes to mind when people try to say it's realistic . It's a desperate attempt to justify getting tits on to the page .

The reason I love comics is because the unselfish way the people with the powers act , not for themselves but for the good of everyone .

I know it's not real but it makes me feel good , we all want to be hero's .

That is the problem with comic books wanting to be "real". There are other mediums that do that much better. It is a contest the comic books will loose everytime. If I wanted realism, I would walk out my front door, or read a book. Comic Books are one of the best mediums for escapist fantasy, but there is a segment that is bent on trying to get comic books respectable by having boobs drawn into the stories. I am sure if comic books ever do get a wider audience, the same crowd will complain comic books are sellouts.

Did you read Alias by Bendis? If so, what did you think? Was it "adult", and therefor "juvenile"? I wouldn't let my daughter read it, but I didn't think it was juvenile. No entertainment can be adult without being juvenile? I strongly disagree.

I enjoy Bendis' work, but do I really want to know which location that Jessica gets the most pleasure from confused.gif Leave that stuff to the undergrounds, where they will worship it as the Ultimate Satire.

Not to mention she's getting it from the "dude with the (ahem) steel hard skin". Sweet Christmas, that's realistic. 27_laughing.gif

Well, christ, we all know heroes don't have sex or swear or make people bleed!! I think somebody is stuck in the dark ages of modern mythology!

I don't consider Y to be the least bit juvenile. It reads like and old fashioned Twilight Zone.

If your issue is with seeing boobs, you might have some other issues.

I wasn't asking if you liked Alias, but rather if it is juvenile. But if you didn't read it then you really can't say I guess......

I like seeing boobs. I like seeing real boobs. I don't understand the need to see DRAWN boobs and how that somehow makes comic books all grown up. You don't understand the point. There are other mediums that do that better. Comic books will get to the point that they become irrelevent if the attitude is we must push the barriers and make them grown up. For comic books to survive, they must get new readers and a generation of kids. Do you really think having a mature line of comic books is going to bring in the audience that watches cinemax?

I just don't understand the need to make superheroes grown up. That is like trying to make the muppets grown up. Lets make a muppett movie and see how MS.Piggy and Kermit the Frog get it on. It seems you have more of need to justify reading comic books as an adult by making them mature with you. I can enjoy Looney Tunes cartoons as an adult and I don't see how making a mature line of cartoons is going to make them anymore sophisticated. If I wanted a more mature challenge, I would read a book.

Quite a few people on here keep getting back to the issue that a mature line of comics is not what the industry needs to bring in new fans. I don't think anybody is disputing that. What I disagree with, though, is the idea that there can't be any comics out there specifically for fans that are ALREADY into comics. Why must every comic out there be designed to interest new readers? If you ran a business and you had a core of long term customers that were interested in something that new customers probably wouldn't be would you develope that product for the core customers or dismiss it as something worthless because it won't bring in new business?

And do you watch the Muppets or Looney Tunes anymore? Have you grown past them? Why? Could it be that the stuff that interested you as a kid doesn't quite cut it now?
