I am looking for a link to a cover gallery of stuff for don rosa I'd like to get something modern if I can for signing but don't know what... I'm not even sure if he still draws stuff any more or not (shrug) I have read the collected edition hc of the life & times of scrooge & would like to get something in 9.8 shape to sign just looking for ideas really ... I figure something modern would be cheaper to pick up

Wow thanks guys I will have to do some searching ... Honestly I'd like to find one with as many characters as I can Scrooge & donald & the kids & anyone else from the "ducktales" type characters . Nice to know he is still drawing as well... does he ever do sketches at cons ?.. If so how hard is it to get one from him /what around does it cost per duck?.. :)

Does anyone also know of any similar collected hardcover editions to that of the life and times of scrooge ?.. Does not really have to be of dons work as I just want something for reading in this case lol

I can't remember what Rosa charges, but he's pretty darn reasonable. I've met him a couple of times and have had good interactions! He did a sweet Uncle Scrooge sketch on a backing board for me for free...

I was under the impression he stopped doing sketches after someone got a personalized creation and had a colorist do their thing to take out the personalization.

When I met Rosa, he was doing free sketches on backing boards and what-not. For free, I believe he insists on personalizing them. He charges for commission pieces obviously. As for a sketch cover, the story he told me is that he won't do them. Just as Pirate said, he did one personalized and the recipient had it colored over the personalization before slabbing.

what does he charge for a commission I have a sketch book I've been taking to cons for years I have no problem having em do something in that :)

This is my freebie (yep, personalized - but I love it)

That is awesome how long did it take em to do that?

stupid question....but why do certain duck artists garner much more interest than others? barks and rosa always seem to be mentioned but to my very untrained eye, they all look exactly the same. not that its a bad thing, im assuming its a disney thing.

are there subtle differences with the work? im brand new to disney books so was just wondering

I think he still does sketches, but not on sketch covers. My experience with him is that he is temperamental to say the least.

I'll let you know next week as he'll be at Heroes again. I offered him some cash last year on Friday to do 5 head sketches for me (I'm a HUGE Scrooge fan) and he declined even though I told him they could gladly be personalized. I think he still thought I was a flipper. I guess I'll just try and get one nice piece this year and will probably buy one of those $10 prints he always sells to see if that softens him up a bit.

Barks and Rosa are the most respected Duck artists in part because of the quality of their writing as well. Short version is that each of them devoted real time and effort into the art behind the stories. Rosa's level of detail is superior to all I can think of. Barks was the quintessential Duck artist for his fluid lines and personalization of the characters. IMHO, they are really head and shoulders above the rest.

I sadly don't know any of barks stuff I only know of dons because of the life & times of scrooge hard covers that were put out recently .... I wish they would put out more collected hard covers like that

In my humble opionion, The Life and Times is the best origin story created.

Don Rosa's name is often mentioned with Barks' because of their wonderful story sense - lots of adventure based on real-life locations, attention to details, great pacing and little hidden "where's Waldo" drawings and signs in each issue.

Don is often cited as the heir apparant to Barks.

Everyone else is a distant second. meh
