UNCANNY X-MEN (1963-2011) RIP ?

11 posts in this topic

With Marvel's seemingly short sighted cancellation of The Uncanny X-Men series, do people think that issues other than #1 (since that is the 1st appearance) will go down in value, such as random issues like let's pick any numbers between #10 and #500?

As a former collector, I always thought that comic books were fun to collect and the thrill of the chase of getting every single back issue was a challenging and exciting hunt.

It seems that both Marvel and DC are no longer keeping that in consideration.

It seems odd cancelling The Uncanny X-Men.

It's not as if there's only one "Mutant" or "X" title, nor they're prohibited from publishing yet another new title at #1 to fulfill the needs of adding sizzle and attention to the marketplace with a #1 first issue.

Is there a reason why Marvel decided to cancel the Uncanny X-Men title (and I hope they don't go back and do their lame "oops, we made a bad marketing move" re-numbering continuation like they did with other series) instead of just launching a new title?

From a nostalgic standpoint, it's a shame that they didn't or don't continue the X-Men title. I would have thought that was their flagship title and sort of cornerstone or legacy that showed a strong publishing foundation and fanbase, to have a title with the potential to legitimately continue on into issue #1,000 and beyond for future generations to appreciate.

There should be some sort of "write-in" or boycott by both comic shops and collectors to "stop the insanity" and let the Uncanny title live on.

Wouldn't it be great if retailers united and just didn't order any of the new X-Tiitles to prove the point? I think comic shops could benefit from having legacy titles, so that they continue to have a healthy back-issue business and keep collectors coming in and filling their want lists. That's just my opinion 'tho.

A publisher has no interest in back issue sales as they make no money from it.

Second prints, collected editions, or digital copies are the way they will continue to promote stories a reader missed.

Whatever means a publisher can use to make money off of the property they own is always going to be used to replace the secondary market sale.

Some of those means seem misguided to fans who have always collected numerically, but as THAT market gets smaller and smaller, it makes less and less sense to a publisher.

If the prices ever go down it won't because they canceled the title. In a year or two they will resume there old numbering system anyway.

Kind of like the ASM trick hm

They'll start about 18 months before #600 would be due.

Everybody points out how DC played dirty with cancelling Batman,Detective,Superman and Action, but they are just doing what Marvel has down over and over again these last few years. Let`s see we had a new FF 1,Captain America 1,Punisher 1,Daredevil 1 so far this year. It`s bogus to try to care about collecting the monthlies and we are better off just waiting for the trades.

Oh, yes, DC has learned from the master regarding this. No doubt about it.

:censored: both of 'em.

I said it before, but Marvel will lose more customers than it picks up with the cancellation. Ironically, jumping on points also make great jumping off points, especially with people who were purchasing new books just to keep their runs ongoing.

They already canceled it with #66 and that only lasted for 5 months, they'll pick up the numbering again eventually.

OK, cool! So, how long will it be until issue #545 comes out?

Yeah, but that was a real cancellation. with no new #1 to replace it. Sure, it was only 9 months before the reprints started, but effectively it was a 5 year cancellation.
