OT: I got drunk this weekend....

30 posts in this topic

Saturday afternoon, I made a dropoff in Havre de Grace, MD for fellow forumite and variant collector ShieldAgent. Next time, we'll hang a bit longer next time... cuz it went all downhill from there.

In my rush to head on out, I realized I had not brought a sufficient selection of tunes to satisfy myself and my 2 co-travellers. We spent an 8 hour ride listening to Snoop Dogg's Doggiestyle (oddly enough the insert is a comic" A day in the life of Snoop Dogg"...I'll have to post some scans later...I had forgotten all about it smile.gif )and a plethora of sedating slow jams form the 70's and 80's.

Partied up (or tried to...) in NYC Saturday night in a West Village bar called Chumleys (86 Bedford St - no f'n sign) for a college reunion of sorts. Got lost once I crossed over into the city via Holland Tunnel which was itself a 40 minute painfully slow roll from the NJ Turnpike exit. I was driving around Chambers St and ended up in Chinatown. I'm glad I no longer have to frequent those establishments on a weekly basis looking for entertainment or companionship. The moment of the night that sealed that realization for me was seeing a fugly drunken couple making out in the middle of the floor at last call. I just kept thinking who would be hating themselves more the next morning once they were sober and saw what they went to bed with in the morning light foreheadslap.gif Needless to say, bar food was good, drinks pizz-poor and ambiance was nil. Nothing positive whatsoever about that night. I made sure to let my buddy who picked the place out have it for making myself and 2 other college buddies who live down here in VA, make the 8 hour trek with traffic, to imbibe in a sh!thole in the West Village. Even in my younger days, I wouldn't be caught dead in a place like that foreheadslap.gif and was highly disappointed that we were nowhere near Scores or one of the more fun establishments that NYC provides in abundance...

Sunday was a 30th birthday get together for a college buddy out in Woodbury, Long Island. Food was spectacular and so was the company. After all these years, driving on the L.I.E. is something I don't miss. It still sucks and is still slow, and this is someone who battles Beltway traaffic daily here in DC. Sometimes I miss NY, but other times I'm thankful I'm in the Northern VA suburbs. I realize it is more the family and friends that I miss rather than the types of places I used to frequent often frown.gif

I did a little of all the above posts.

Little Ellen is sick with a cold( that my wife was kind enought to bring home)

And now we all 3 have.

Watched Pacers Sweep Boston.

Margaritahs fridays game, and beers yesterday.

It was sunny and 65 all weekend, but sadly I didnt see any of it.

I have a huge job for a client who was hired to decorate the new Indiana Ice hockey teams suite at the INDY 500, and is having me make the new team logo in stained glass.

And gave me a 1 week deadline!

I have had to work more then overtime, and fear I might run out of time before Friday deadline, things always have a way of getting done though.

So it is perfect timing for all of us to be sick.. as he said above.

When it rains it pours.

Anybody coming to Indy for the 500?

let me know, Ill show ya round..

Hey, Darth: Do you realize that Chumley's is a NY institution? It's where the termed "86ed" comes from! No joke. The place has no sign and never has... it was a speakeasy and socialist gathering spot in the '20s/'30s, and has several secret hiding places and exits including one behind one of the bookcases...

To be "86ed" originally meant to be snuck out of the bar to safety when the the authorities came raiding...

And that's your history lesson for the day!

Thanks for the info! That is very interesting but does nothing for my wasted weekend night out there frown.gif I will never go there by choice, considering the other fun spots in Manhattan. I was just talking with dam60 tonight and realized how much more fun I would have had partying up on the upper East Side where I went to school or in the area around Columbia University. I'm sure my buddy mentioned a bit of this in his email relating the get-together plans; however, given my opinion of the guy being a insufficiently_thoughtful_person, I didn't really read too much into it.
