Early Planets, Fights, Lornas THREAD CLOSED!

156 posts in this topic

Well, I'm back, more or less recovered from the Catman thread, where I quite lost count of all the pm's.

Now I need to sell a few to help pay GAtor for the remaining Catman issues - which means parting with books I'd otherwise regard as keepers.

In this thread I'll be listing some early Planets, a handful of other scarce early golden age, a partial run of Lorna the Jungle Girl, some scarcer early-ish Jumbos and Jungles, and rounding out the jungle theme, a great set of Tarzan hundred pages with fabulous Russ Manning artwork. I'll also toss in one or two surprises, so keep watching!

PLEASE READ THIS:

I am based in the UK. I am keeping shipping costs as low as I can though prices keep escalating seemingly month by month, and at these charges I am usually subsidising shipping. Here are the costs of shipping to the USA:

Raw comics: $8 by regular (uninsured) airmail or $18 insured expedited mail. Add $2 for each additional comic. UNINSURED PACKAGES SENT AT YOUR OWN RISK! But I have never, ever lost a package. (Though I'd prefer to send valuable packages by insured expedited mail.)

CGC comics $20 uninsured, or $28 via expedited mail plus $12 per addtional CGC item, maximum 3 CGC items per package.

If you combine CGC and raw items then I will only charge $2 each for the raw items.

:takeit: wins over pm's.

All non-CGC items may be returned if dissatisfied, but please note that I will only refund the cost of the item, not postage or packing either way. (The only exception will be if I have made a significant error in grading.) I will not accept returns of CGC items.

Hope that's all clear but if you have any questions please ask them before buying, not after!

PAYMENT BY PAYPAL OR INTERNATIONAL BANK DRAFT ONLY PLEASE!

No probies or trolls allowed. Everyone feel free to hang out, but bring your own popcorn.

BLUE BEETLE #12 CGC 6.5 FN+ Off-White to White Pages 2nd Highest CGC Graded $900

price firm

1 of just 4 examples of this rare book that CGC has ever certified, and just 1 has certified any higher (at 7.0.) With a smooth tight appearance, bright colors, and no significant flaws, this example presents very, very nicely for the assigned grade.

PLANET COMICS #7 1940 CGC 5.0 VGF Off-White Pages $665

Scarce! CGC has certified only 12 unrestored and 1 restored example of this issue, and just 3 in the offered grade. The Overstreet Price Guide lists this item in the condition offered for $525. Asking price is a bit below what I paid.

Planet Comics #29 1944 5.0 VGF cream to off white pages. $275 SOLD!

Main fault is a staple tear. The front cover is detached but the single staple is holding tightly at the back. (No risk of becoming detached altogether.) There is also a slight spine roll, and a moderate tanning halo to interior covers. Very glossy, with clean edges and springy paper. I nearly graded it 5.5 but decided better to be conservative. Arguably one of Doolin's best covers! This is the last large size issue.

PLANET COMICS #12 1941 VG- 3.5 Cream pages. $325

1" spine split at bottom staple and another 1" split at base of spine. Light, soft centre crease does not break color. Attractive copy for the given grade. A fairly uncommon issue in my experience. Guides for $420 in VG in Overstreet.
