Here's my Action #12 with a similar defect.

I guess the difference would seem to be that as sweet as the #12 looks, its cover wrap is detached, in addition to the splits. If I read the OP's description right, the #22 has spine splits but is still attached at both staples, at least for now. Given that, and given the monster eye appeal, a grade of 2.5 seems about right to me, maybe a 2.0 worst case.

Wasn't there a Detroit Trolley copy of this or a similar Action issue that had a near complete spine split but otherwise was very nice? I remember it being in the 2.0 - 2.5 range.

There was a georgeous Action #20 that Alton owned. The spine was split similar to this one. It recieved a 2.0

Keep it comin' folks-I'm feeling better about this book all the time... Seriously-Question: is it better to keep the book raw, or have the spine fixed and get a purple label with a higher grade, or is the 1/2 to 1 point bump not worth having the purple label? Just wonderin'...
