Who are these red sox and yankees???

well, the Red Sox are the leaders in the AL East...and stand only two games back from the Angels, with some 70 or so games to go (not including post-season play), so.... thumbsup2.gif

I do realize that both the Sox and their fans often quit around the 100 game mark, but winners never quit so,the YANKEES proudly play 162 games of the regular season. As do most other teams

The best baseball record:

Ty Cobb's 50 steals of home.

Damn!, I didn't know that.

I was always impressed back when Rickey Henderson and Vince Coleman were stealing 100 bases in a season. It must have made opposing pitchers sick to see them standing on first smiling like, well, like a thief.

Best baseball record: Cy Young's 750 complete games. Will absolutely, never, bet the ranch and dance on it, be broken.

For this long time Boston fan I'd have to go with Theodore Samuel Williams. From 1939 at age 20 to 1960 at age 41, he hit in the 200's (.254) only one year: 1959 at the age of 40. He DID rally in 1960 at 41 years old and with 38 more at bats (310 in 1960 vs 272 in 1959) to hit .316.

His all time REAL best (scratching the 1953 .407 BA for 37 games and 91 ABs) was .406 in 1941 with 456 ABs.

His batting averages and ABs listed below. And this was BEFORE some of the newer rules came into play!

Year Games At Bats BA

1939 149 565 0.327

1940 144 561 0.344

1941 143 456 0.406

1942 150 522 0.356

1946 150 514 0.342

1947 156 528 0.343

1948 137 509 0.369

1949 155 566 0.343

1950 89 334 0.317

1951 148 531 0.318

1952 6 10 0.4

1953 37 91 0.407

1954 117 386 0.345

1955 98 320 0.356

1956 136 400 0.345

1957 132 420 0.388

1958 129 411 0.328

1959 103 272 0.254

1960 113 310 0.316

His lifetime? 7,706 ABs with a .344 BA.

Now that has to be appreciated grin.gif

And I actually saw him play, too!
