Life is full of microcosms and each microcosm is a picture of something larger. Layer upon layer.

If you get in too fast, it's likely your going to leave fast.

If you want to enjoy the ride for a while, you need to ease in and find a good pace.

I believe that all of life is an exercise in patience and understanding, nothing more.

Learning to slow down and enjoy the roses is what it's all about. I learned this the hard way.

When Seanfingh learns to tolerate me his lesson will be complete and he can move on to the next state of consciousness. Until then, he's .

I could actually feel my blood pressure rising until I got to the last sentence.

Is that why you have red hair?

I don't have red hair, unless i try to grow a goatee. Then it comes in red. That is me on the right in Pirate's sig line. The red hair is a myth. (I almost said "like your wife's orgasms" but I am trying to teach Oakland how not to be mean, so i didn't)

That would be funny if I cared about anyone having an orgasm other then myself. Auto-fail..

Selfishness is key. And sig lines are off :baiting:

You know you laughed. But you did do a good job of deflecting so . . . (worship)

you need to add

11. It is not a contest. If you treat is like a contest, then the odd on "winning" is not on your side since there is always someone with deeper pockets, more savvy in picking the right books that appreciate more, luckier than you, etc..

Welcome to the forum. (thumbs u

At the risk of losing more members I would like to help clarify a few things.

1. Comics are expensive. Spend your money wisely.

2. Cracking books for a PQ bump or grade bump. - Sometimes this works, sometimes it does not. It is a risk with some reward (some times). This is a gamble, and may not always yield the results you desired.. That is why they call it gambling.

3. Pressing- Not every book is going to upgrade. While I know many of you get excited at the prospects of millions of dollars in upgrades, things CAN go wrong. CGC may have an accident, the presser may have an accident, the book may have been overgraded before, etc.. We all want to think the world is perfect, it is not.

4. Flipping- sometimes you can buy cheap, and sell high. Sometimes you can get stuck with a book on a downtreand and you didnt sell in time. It's a gamble.

5. Buy the book not the label. Forum BS that needs to be called as such. If you want a 9.x, buy that grade. Do not buy books in hopes they can upgrade and then be upset because they could not. CGC grades alot of books, they know what they are doing for the most part.

6. Do not collect past your means. - We all know there are some heavy hitters here, but it's not a competition. If you want to compete, money wins. And there are players here who do not have to consider if they can afford a big book. Do not mortgage your soul for comics. Seriously.

7. Enjoy the hobby for what it is. The "hunt" is fun.. But if you get the book and toss it aside, you may want to evaluate. All you are doing is buying really expansive "things" that hold little value.

8. Ethics/ Morals. Few and far between when money and comics are involved. Tread very very lightly.

9. Auctions and shilling of such. Search threads here, they are priceless and can save you alot of money.

10. Please enjoy the hobby. It can be alot of fun, and there are some great people here with alot of knowledge to share!

I submit a possible "Forward" to your 10 point list. "Context" for one through ten you've outlined.

(Sage observation from old thread:)

Parts of this thread confirms what I've suspected for some time: i.e., that collecting GA-BA comic books (especially in grade) has become either too complicated, too costly, or too risky (or some combination of all three) for the average schmoe who can't afford to get fleeced, and likewise doesn't have the time, energy, or inclination to gain a Ph.D. level understanding of market fluctuations, micro-grading criteria, and other forms of esoteric or "hidden" knowledge that many collectors have spent a lifetime advancing and acquiring.

As comic book collecting has clearly evolved far beyond its roots in early comics fandom (where content and simply finding the books generally--though not always--trumped grade), perhaps it's not enough now to simply enjoy the books themselves or "the hunt": it also helps to enjoy the more analytical dimensions of the hobby, too (especially in the higher price brackets). If that kind of "high finance"/micro-economics stuff isn't someone's bag, then chances are this segment of the hobby simply isn't for them...

Ditto for Bronze Bruce. Readers should take heed from those guys who're in it to win it. If it's rough for them it'll probably be 10X brutal for the dreamers.

... the MO that worked easily in years past will kick your arse in short order these days. I learned my lesson in about 6 months. The market took about 20% from me (on my casual speculative buys) for not recognizing the current dynamic and adapting.

Now, it's a "better be real sure and act quickly & realistically" MO... or your holding the hot, sinking value potato. And, that still does not guarantee success.

Not a market for the meek...

Rule 17. Avoid Comics General for your first six months on the board. The other forums are like training wheels and you can learn to enjoy the hobby and the knowledgeable folks on the board. After that, feel free to wade in and have all the joy of collecting sucked from your soul.
