Craigslist Problem?!?!?

15 posts in this topic

Hey, is anyone else getting redirected to the following URL: http://www.craigslist.org/about/domain_tou_violation ???

I went on this morning as I do every morning to search for comics and the like when this happened... I cannot access CRAIGSLIST anymore....

Am I alone?

Thanks in advance.

Ah, CRAIGSLIST.ca seems to be done according to their discussion boards...

Do you have a link?

https://forums.craigslist.org/?forumID=9

Lots of folks calling each other names and such on the CRAIGSLIST forums... Real mature. It's not clear to me what I have to do, although some are calling others stupid for not reading... (tsk)

You can't get on because you violated their Terms Of Use. You're using (I'll imagine), some sort of aggregator to search everything at once. Because of that, they bounced you (and everybody else who was). Since I didn't, I can get on just fine.

That's what I was getting at with my last post/question. There are a garden variety of multi/federated search tools on the Web which allow you to search multiple Craiglist and other free classified search sites at once. I don't know if this is what you are using, but if you are, then what is likely happening is that the referral from this federated search tool is being flagged as soon as you land on the Craigslist site. That search tool, the domain, and any referral traffic it is sending to CL is violating Craigslists TOU.

Nope. And I don't even know how to do what you're talking about (you imagined wrong). I'm not the only person with this problem... And you seem to be fine, because it seems to be only affecting certain visitors with Canadian IPs.

Odd.

And now I'm being redirected a non-Craigslist page. They're having some serious problems.... It seems to be a DNS issue.

I have to agree. When I see the MarkMonitor name being used as the redirect landing page, it is something concerning.

Sorry then. Must be a poutine thing. I can look here, what can I find for you? See if this works.

Nah, there was something going on. I initially thought it might be related to an ISP issue (this does happen from time to time, and can only be diagnosed running a tracert). But I ran a multiple location check and it was clearly down. Within the last few minutes, it started working again, but it redirects to a CL TOU page that says the following:

Hello, Canada! Technical issues are currently affecting access to craigslist Canada sites for many users.

All hands are working to get this sorted out asap. Sorry for the inconvenience.

My guess is that the -script they use to detect visitor location (i.e. IP, cookie, last page visited, etc.) is malfunctioning, because external search tools don't seem to be effected, and if you navigate directly to your city or location (like Dan's link does) it works.
