I would venture to say that 99% of the comic books sold are not slabbed. I would also venture to guess that 90% of the dollar value of comics sold are slabbed. So, if you collect high-grade, high-dollar books then your collecting world revolves around CGC, if not, it doesn't. confused-smiley-013.gif

Interesting take... I think your estimates are pretty good, though I'm not sure that 90% of the $ spent on back issues is directly tied to CGCed books... when you add up all the unslabbed stuff on eBay, it's gotta come to $1 million a week, no? And of that, I'd guess that only 50-60% is from slabbed books. That's a total guess, mind you.

But more importantly, I think that CGC has had a huge effect on the overall market, both directly and indirectly. It's a bit like a black hole - even when you can't see its influence directly, it's "gravitational effect" on the rest of the market is there.

Observations based on eBay auctions:

A typical week has about 2700 CGC auctions with about 1500 receiving bids and 1400 meeting reserve for a total of about $200,000 on books actually sold.

A typical week also has roughly 100,000 non-cgc comics auctions. Sell-through percentages are similar to CGC books at about 50 percent so that makes roughly 50,000 non-cgc comics auctions sold per week. I haven't done any research recently on average prices of non-cgc comic auctions, but if we use an average of $4.00, that would give a similar $200,000 per week actually sold figure.

Big auctions from Heritage that are 'simulcast' on eBay can inflate the weekly CGC numbers on eBay by $600,000 or more.

Where you been? The squirrels have been lonely! flowerred.gif

I could give a real answer to that question... but I am trying to avoid winning the Forum Drama Queen award...

But with a brand-new computer, a wife who finally saw the right endocrinologist (after 17 appts and eleven different meds), and a minor surgery scheduled for myself on Thursday, I am finally back to abnormal... sumo.gif

You should expect a copy of Associated Student Bodies #4 coming across your desk any time now... I know you can't wait to see what happened after the cliffhanger in issue 3... flowerred.gif
