In the new DC 52 universe the rules of poker are different

Just got around to reading Detective comics #5. This book has become my favorite of the bat-titles. Who knew? Anyway, after reading the lead story i came upon the back-up. I was a little annoyed that the main story was so short, but i decided to read on anyway despite the anger sharks that were swimming in my head. In the story, hugo strange has a son and he's working with Catwoman. Long story short, he ends up playing cards with some russian mob types. Then when it comes time to lay down his hand the mob guy puts down 3 aces and 2 jacks = Full House, then little strange son puts down an unsuited ace, king, queen, jack, ten = a straight. AND WINS! Granted the straight was of the royal variety (meaning that it was an ace, king, queen, jack, ten) but the cards were not all same suited! (if they were all suited it would have been a royal flush and beaten the full house.Right there plain as day the king in the hand is a heart, while the rest of the cards in the mobsters hand are spades. A royal straight is the best straight to have, but at the end of the day it's still a straight and a full house beats a straight. Someone fell asleep in the editing room here. I demand a recall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What have we learned from this? Some ordinary life rules don't always apply in the new dc universe. Maybe in the new DC universe if you put pop rocks and soda pop in your mouth at the same time your head really does explode! Maybe the Roadrunner is the one with an endless supply of useless acme traps, and the Coyote is the smart azz, know it all, elusive speedster!!!!!!!!!!!! ....................Ahem, Or maybe the new continuity only affected the rules of card games. :insane:

I believe it's Zooey Deschanel

She's filed for divorce!

Yep. And even better: So did Katy Perry!!!!! :luhv:

To the OP: Good catch! I had a Royal Flush once...it was GREAT! Just knowing you have the BEST possible hand is awesome. Although the pot wasn't very big...I had to slow play it and make sure I didn't scare the guy off who I was going heads-up against. I was just happy to be able to play it!

I'm on it. I actually have a friend who has known her sister for a long time. I'm one dinner party invite away from making this damned thing happen!

:o, talk about a new status quo

BTW, the girl in your signature is Katy Perry?

Not Ms. Perry, but just like Katy the girl in his sig is now getting a divorce. OP time to make your move on her. :)

Yeah, it's a tough hand when you know your heads up with someone that has diddly and they aren't betting. I mean, you're going to win, but extracting money is a delicate situation. Those straight flush vs 4 of a kind hands are when the fireworks start.

Oh yeah. They had a hand like that recently on a WSOP episode (or some other tournament) where a guy went all in with quad Ace's and the other guy called (or vice versa) with a straight flush (and maybe it was even a royal, don't recall).

THAT, is a bad beat. But I mean, quad Ace's. You go all in or call ANYTHING with those. Ouch.

Word. I've played many thousands of hands and i've only ever had quad anything 4-5 times over the years. In most casinos that would pay out HUGE to the loser of the bad beat jackpot.

Back in the good days of online poker with sites like Party Poker I managed to lose twice with a straight flush vs. a bigger straight flush within the course of around 400 hands. Both times I was using both cards in my hand to hit the straight flush. One time they were using both cards in hand and the other time a 4th card to the straight flush hit the board giving them a bigger straight flush with 1 card out of their hand.

$200 Max NL tables at the time if I remember correctly. I think these bad beats cost me a little over $1300 total. I broke a $400 laptop over a coffee table on the second hand. :(

Also neither hand was on or during a bad beat type of table or jackpot going on at the site or I would have made some serious money off at least the first hand.
