A golden age alphabet for February 2012

The Teck Haskins at Ohio State booklet was done by W. Ireland, better known as Billy Ireland. He was one of Ohio's great cartoonists and his estate recently donated all holdings to the OSU comic library and museum and OSU renamed the unit the Billy Ireland Library... It just intrigued me because I had never seen a Billy Ireland item before this one.

This great Schomburg painting was part of Leonard Brown's incredible collection. When he was at Collectors Bookstore, he hired Schomburg to do several paintings, mostly cover re-creations, that were gobbled up by collectors. He liked this one the best and bought it for himself. After his death, I sold it for his widow.
