I give up. I've sent about 8 books in thinking they would grade at least a 9.6 or 9.8. Only to have some come back a 9.4. Its too risky. I think I'd rather pay the premium & just buy them already graded 9.8.

 

Just goes to show, that, like anything, it's a lot harder than it looks . . .

My latest submission of 16 modern books for my Registry sets, that were all bought on Ebay, twelve came back 9.6. For the first time none came back in the coveted 9.8 grade. So I guess by Ebay standards this was a win.

I believe that if you can get a 9.8 modern slabbed book for $25 which happens plenty of times on auctions then it is the safest bet.

 

At this point the only time I would send moderns in is if it a variant LE or something that was in short supply or high demand.
