Do slabs ever need to be replaced?

5 posts in this topic

I tried to find a topic about this, sorry if it has been discussed before.

Just wondering what the life expectancy of a slabbed comic is, should you have a book re-slabbed after a certain number of years as you would with bags and boards?

Another thing I always wondered about is when I see pics of boardies displaying their graded books on walls, arent they afraid of light damaging the colors of the books or do the slabs protect them from the uv rays?

Appreciate any replies, thanks!

There is no expIration date on a 'slab.' That being said, it is recommended that the internal micro chamber paper housed inside the CGC enclosure be changed every seven years. Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,

What happens if you don't replace the paper? Would it start to breakdown? That could be quite expensive having to redo that every 7 years.

The microchamber paper just becomes inert. Nothing scary will happen.
