<< REDUCED >> YOU ASKED FOR IT (Casino Royale) - 1st U.S. pb ed w/ "Jimmy Bond"

9 posts in this topic

Here is a very good copy of Ian Fleming's YOU ASKED FOR IT (CASINO ROYALE), the first paperback edition of Casino Royale in the US, which was re-titled by Popular Library to Fleming's dismay. As a result, publisher was changed with the next US printing. Published by Popular Library in April, 1955. Bond is referred to as "Jimmy Bond" on the back cover: "WILD WEEKEND If he hadn't been a tough operator, Jimmy Bond would never have risked a weekend with a woman who used her magnificent body as a weapon to destroy him..."

This copy has some creasing on front cover and a bit less on the back. Wear at top and bottom of spine. Color very good for this copy, usually found very worn and faded. Spine a bit slanted with slight miswrap to cover. No writing on outside or inside of book.

:takeit: trumps PMs. Probies go scratch.

$120 DROPPED TO $110 postpaid to U.S. or Canada (will send overseas and will charge exact certified airmail shipping, no extra handling charges)

Great price on that. Book is a nightmare to find in decent shape. Yours is far better than most you see, when you see them which is not often.

Thank you, gentlemen!

I like to try selling unusual non-comic material here on the Boards. I agree that this is a very fair price and lesser copies usually sell for a lot more than what I'm asking.

Cool item! I love how the spy angle is downplayed and the sexual melodrama is highlighted. Gives you a good idea of what publisher's thought would sell at the time.

Obviously they were right to go the sleaze route because nothing came of that lame character Bond.

For this particular book, I'd be willing to make a trade. Here's a list of what I might consider:

pre-code horror key covers

unrestored Marvel SA keys/semi-keys

Master Comics with Raboy covers

Strange Tales #154 9.2 and up

Strange Tales #155 9.2 and up

Strange Tales #158 9.2 and up

Strange Tales #160 9.2 and up

Voodoo (Farrell) in 6.0 and up

Haunted Thrills #1, #3, #4, #11 in 6.0 and up

Beware #10

Weird Tales February 1928

might consider Weird Tales with Matt Fox covers in fine condition

DC Giant #21

PM me if you want to propose a trade. Thanks!
