It sure opened my eyes about the extent to which even everyday images are manipulated. Never trust those scans on Ebay. Hammer is an amateur when it comes to this and he still manages to hide a lot.

If I am not mistaken, I believe that is Miss Paraguay from the Miss Universe pageant last week. I still can't believe how she only finished fourth. My wife and I thought she was the best of the lot showing beauty, elegance, and grace. I guess it didn't help her cause since she did not speak English.

 

To me, the Austrialian girl that won look like a common country girl or the girl next door. Miss USA who finish second looked like a made-up Barbie doll. Well, I guess, to each their own.

and the Avatar is miss Puerto Rico who was also among the top five finalists. and they are both 6 feet tall

She's also been photoshopped to death. Not that she is not gorgeous, but the skin quality it like she is wearing a flesh colored danskin.

the weather turned out to be pretty disappointing - totally cloudy and cool all day.

 

BUT, Tripps brought the FF #1 in 9.6 with white pages with him. that book has got to be worth close to a quarter million bucks!!!!!

 

he also brought a DD#1 in 9.6, Sgt Fury 1 in 9.4, JIM 83 in 9.4/9.6 (?) and Hulk #1 in 9.2 (tom brulato has the only 9.4 in existence).

 

i also had him give me his opinions on some of my most Key books. he really liked the JIM 83 and the DD 1.

 

all-in-all a cool day chatting about comics with one of "the men".........he was also pretty excited to hear that 17 of my original purchase marvels (of 20) just graded at 9.0 and higher. i'll post a couple today as pretty books if they've arrived after their 4 month visit to Florida............

Sorry, Miss Paraguay is listed as 5' 9" ( here)... which, I was thinking, would cost her the crown when they announced the final 5.

 

I would have voted for her in a heartbeat, but my wife thought Miss Australia had something about her attitude that would make her a shoo-in.

interesting - it has ms Puerto Rico as 5'11" and the officail (?) miss universe website has both of them listed as 6'. oh well that's 3 inches that i couldn'r really give a C%$P about - i was just amazed that they were so tall. and check out ms Costa Rica - i thought she deserved to be in the finals too!!!

Sheesh, I didn't realize height was so universally important in modelling. The shortest model I could find on the Miss Universe web site was Miss India at 5'6"! Even most of the Asian models were 5'9" to 6'; isn't the average height of Oriental women closer to 5'4"?

We live in an age where technology and advertising have combined forces to increasingly make us feel inadequate as human beings, especially women. The dissatisfaction we internalize, they hope to channel into convincing us to buy this, and buy that to make ourselves worthy.

I picked it up in studying Oriental religions/philosophies. I suppose to use an English word like that, you have to first step out of Western-centric literature and thought, which isn't common. (Occident = Western hemisphere, Orient = Eastern hemisphere).

 

I can't imagine why the term "Oriental" is unpolitically correct; it's a geographical reference. Is it because Americans have historically looked at Asians as all the same or something?
