Was Showcase 4 the best selling superhero title for the month of September 1956?

- Interesting scenario- and if accurate, could lead us to conclude that Showcase 4 was a prototypical issue since the "final fate of the Flash" was not "determined" until Broome took over the reigns with Showcase 13, 14.

- Kirby's "arrival" at DC must have generated some level of "excitement" during this period. DC didn't wait too long to give him his own series- before any other "non-superman related book."

- And here's a scenario to think about:

Kirby comes to DC and subsequently introduces the Challengers in Showcase 6 which must have resulted in relatively better than average sales since the group gets its own book right after Lois Lane. Imagine, the first "non-superman/batman related" book to sell well, created by the newest member of the DC team?

Perhaps the "pressure" was turned on for the "established" already at DC to compete with the "new kid on the block" - who comes over and introduces a successful "new team" concept that generates good sales. After all, before the introduction of the Challengers in Showcase 6, the only hero related books that sold well were Supes, Bats, Wonder Woman and the books related to these characters - an accomplishment that should not be underscored.

Not to take anything away from the other greats and legends that worked at DC when Kirby was there, but Jack had an ability to "stir the creative pot" - which is evident to an even greater degree when he teams up with Stan in '61.
